Have you ever had any good ideas for TV programmes - either a story idea for an existing programme, or an idea for a new programme? Here are some of mine.
A 'Dr Who' story in which the Doctor arrives in an alternative 2009 on Earth, in which neither he nor the other time lords exist or ever have existed - but there is, on T.V., a popular, long-running TV sci-fi series called 'Dr Who', featuring a fictionalised version of him: in other words, this alternative present is our present! The Doctor has to find out how this world came to find out about the Time-Lords' real existance in the alternative reality he comes from, and incorporated it into a TV series.
This idea addresses a paradox which unavoidably affects all long-running T.V. dramas and soaps: that the characters have never heard of the drama or soap in question. In a real East-End pub, for example, a popular, perennial topic of conversation is probably what's happening in 'East-Enders', but obviously it isn't in the Queen Vic, and none of the characters are ever shown watching Stenders on telly either. The same, of course, applies to Corrie, Neighbours (aka Cobber Nation Street), Emmerdale, and the rest.
Talking of soaps, another idea I think could be fun would be for two soaps to have a joint storyline: for example, a character from Corrie goes dahn sahf, temporarily or permanently, and appears as a character in Stenders, or even a Stender marries a Corrie, and they live in Stenderland but occasionally reappear in Corrie when the Corrie one of them is visiting friends and relatives up there. Maybe they could go on holiday in the Yorkshire Dales, and turn up in Emmerdale's 'Woolpack' pub! Or would that be just too surreal and confusing?
