  • day out at compton acres

my husband bid on an auction with wave fm and won the chance for me to " become a gardener for a day" at compton acres in dorset. what a fantastic time we had. we were personally accompanied by Peter Thoday (Horticultural director for eden project - currently advisor for compton acres) and Mary Payne MBE (horticultural advisor on BBC Radio and to compton acres).they were so helpful and interesting and full of advice. Compton Acres is so worth a visit because its small enough to wander round and we found it very disabled friendly. next trip will b Eden project me thinks!!!! even got to plant a tree and they put a commemorative plaque on it wiv my hubbies name on it (well, he did pay i suppose) but i got to plant it. brilliant day.

For me compton acres is one of my favourite gardens, the coup-de-gras being the Japanese water garden at the end. IMHO the best in the country.

Well done you! Glad you enjoyed it. I liked the Eden Project, but the Lost Gardens of Heligan which is only a short distance away, is a much much better place to visit!
