I have been trying to grow apple trees from pips, no success yet, for planting on spare ground. I have bought one apple tree for £5, but I might plant that on the allotment.
What about Urban Guerilla Gardening. ie. lobbing handfulls of seed into those endless formal beds of french marigolds, or better still, sowing hemp seeds in plant display troughs found in corporate business reception areas.

Do that too! with my poppies.
The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

No need to sow poppies on our lottie site though they grow there naturally I always get a good "crop" I also get them grow on my garden at home.
There are also parts of Loughborough where they grow.

I like the idea of Urban Guerilla Gardening too - that is great. Pity the hemp seed you can buy isn't the... unusual... variety.
Still it would freak people out and be perfectly legal!
I'm starting to get some grand ideas!

the pots and stuff that they grow in Cahors (my nearest town) always have some weird stuff in anyway ...they grow all sorts of veggies in them as long as they look good.....along with the geraniums of course
i liked that bit in the last but one issue of GYO about the Italian train drivers leaning out of their cab windows to pick tomatoes that grow in between the tracks
maybe we could get veg growing all over the place - lets think of the easiest least attention requiring crop....
