I wonder how they know its strength and location.
    Do they have sensors everywhere?

Yep, we felt it all over campus - buildings shook, glasses and cups rattled, then that was it!!

We weren't sure till we checked that it was an earthquake as in our building, we've got lots of building work going on; but we had reports in from all over campus about it.

Nope! Was a bit worrying that it was up near all the nuclear 'stuff' though, didn't they check the possibility of earthquakes before they built them & they are planning on putting more nuclear power plants up there I believe.

Nope, bit far away really. Didn't feel the last one a few months back either, slept right through it although my mum said the whole bed shook. I would have thought she'd been used to that the way my dad snores lol

M-in-laws parrot went mental apparently and pulled out a load of feathers just before the quake. My son now has a lovely pochahoontas headband

There is currently a proposal for underground gas storage on the River Wyre estuary (salt caverns etc)... it is being vigorously opposed by us locals, as you can imagine.

There was a public consultation meeting last week where the question was asked about earthquakes. One of the proposing companies advisers (American company, american people) told the audience that there was no risk from earthquakes, as this area never got them (not being on a fault etc)

Fairly sure he will have got a lot of emails this week after yesterdays earthquake, since the salt caverns were very much in the zone where the quake happened!
