  • what OH found at the tip

the OH took some rubbish to the tip,and came back with some old clay pots, they are a good size to put on the back patio, but one of them is diferent,i wonder if it's an original,or a reproduction, now to describe it,
straight sides,10.5 high, and 9 inch wide, the intreaging thing is the writing on it,
    THE ORIGINAL SUFFOLK CROCK
    BREAD
IDEAL STORAGE AT HOME OR ON SAFARI
    made by HENRY WATSON POTTERY
    ENGLAND
    FOUNDED 1800
I am wondering if it's worth anything,it rings ,so no cracks, but a little chip on the top lip,and is heavy and neary 1/2 inch thick,it looks likley to be an old bread bin,but on safari lol, what do think,

If it's a pot bread bin it should have a lid.

    A quick google found this:

    https://www.henrywatson.com/home.htm

Daft website won't link to individual pages but they have a bread crock there for £47

    StockCode: 167

They appear to be still making them, so maybe it's not that old.

        Google Image Result for http://www.tablemannersofbroadway.co.uk/acatalog/Henry-BreadCrock%20(2).jpg

        £48 new with lid!!!

I've got pot bread bin- it's not got a lid- and probably never had one. I keep my bread in it.
Not like your new one though...good find !

thanks for that, didn't think they would be still going, let alone have a web site, what a big suprise, there was no lid just the pot,and from the look of condition, has not been used for a vase or plant pot,is glazed on the inside
just looked it up nicos who would pay that much, just to put bread in,looks like the lid is £17.? to replace,

I treated myself to a wine cooler from that range for Spain, where we don't have a freezer to chill the Cava! They are sold in posh, expensive kitchenware shops.

Madmax and I inherited his grandma's Henry Watson 'original Suffolk butter cooler' which also states that it is suitable for use at home or on safari

Well blow me! They don't make our butter cooler any more and the 'replacement' butter box is seventeen quid!!!

*Note to self - take more care of the old dish!!!

sorry..got to laugh...I am just visualising a Victorian safari picnic- with some poor soles having to cart around those hefty jars so some wealthy peeps can have their scones and jam and fresh sandwiches

i agree with you nicos,it stretches the imagination ,it was the word safari that made me wonder about it,it will no doubt end up with holes being drilled in it,and spend it's days on the patio,it would make an ideal flower vase, but i never have enough to fill it lol,and it's just another in home clutter,
