Schools ECO team

My DD is in the schools ECO team, she's only five, but is learning about things to help with the environment.
I think she's a bit blase about it, because we do so much as std at home anyway.

But yesterday she came home after a trip to a recycling and education centre and told me we had to save water and power otherwise we will be up to our necks in water
I asked her, do you know how we save water already? No, she says... Well you know we only flush the toilet when we have a No 2 and not a wee, that saves water.
Oh.

I think it's a great idea to start them off young, it will be their home after it is ours.

Not sure what this post is about, I just wanted to boast my five year old is so switched on

And I bet she feels really special at school when they have these lessons & she's probably top of the class!
My little girl sometimes came home from school saying it was boring...they were learning about growing things & it was all really basic...since her teacher realised the problem she got her a little more involved in it & things improved...but does make you feel proud that you're doing the right thing!

Nature and the environment are something my DS and I have great interest in. One of my proudest moments was when his teacher told me he knew more about the subject than she did! She said he could talk for ages about beneficial insects, companion planting, and energy and water conservation. He took in bug boxes, his wildlife books, water hippos and a solar light kit we installed in his 'hut'. He just loves telling people about the sexton beetle and how, despite its size, it buries the corpses of small birds and mice.

Pride is supposed to be one of the seven deadly sins -and I'm definitely a sinner!!

Good isn't it.

I took some germinated sunflower seeds into school, so her entire class could have a plant and she came home and I said, so where is your plant then? She just said, "well I didn't bother having one, as I told the teacher I had some at home already"

I wish my childhood was like that. I think it's a shame that the growing and country awareness/skills have jumped most of a generation and we are all having to learn lost skills again (and new ones )
