  • Waiting for Rain

All my water Butts are now empty. If we get no rain soon I will have to use tap water.

Awwww sorry to hear that, sick of it blooming raining, all my butts are full again, weeds rapidly coming again, do you know I was only 9 miles away today, raining at my house but not DDL's!

I will do a wee rain dance for you and hopefully 2moro or 2nite you will get some! If it doesnt work always gives the neighbours a laugh!
Dont worry about tomorrow, live for today

I topped all ours up with the hose a couple of weeks ago. It means fewer chemicals per watering can as they are diluted. Also, I'm lead to believe the chemicals evaporate after a while if the water sits anyway, so that's why I do it when they're low - dunno if it's true tho!

Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me will be along soon!

You need more water butts if you're running out at this time of year, heaven help you when it gets to summer proper!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

i was at my lottie today and it is really looking dry, still have some h2o in one water butt, but like you need a drop or two from the sky - it can rain tomorrow if it likes as I'm working tonight so will spend most of the morning from 8 sleeping till lunchtime anyways

I will have to resort to tap water tomorrow if we don't get rain tonight, and it's not forecast either . Today the sun has been shining and very windy. The greenhouse tomatoes need water, and I've so many containers that need a soak. I've a little rain water left, but that's reserved for the lime hating plants, as I'm in a hard water area.
More water butts are a great idea, as long as you have space for them

I'm afraid I've had to resort to the tap and hose pipe today as only room for 1 water butt which is now empty! Everything in containers was bone dry.

Spare a thought for us terraced house dwellers!

The only guttering I can attach a water butt too is under 5ft in length! All the rest on the house go to downpipes on neighbours properties on either side!

I haven't got round to stumping up for a butt, stand, connector and tap yet... I'm not sure whether it will be worth it for the couple of inches I'll collect!

I do leave numerous buckets in the garden when we're due a shower though!

Talk to your neighbours - do they use/need all the water, or does it all go down the drain? One of them may let you put a feeder pipe from their downpipe to your water butt, if you ask them! Good luck!

WE are only supposed to 'get' the rain from the conservatory roof, all the other should go down next door's drainpipe. However when a 'repair' job went wrong up along the terrace a gap appear in the join in the guttering above our conservatory. It's one job I haven't nagged about, although if it's pouring down, hearing the TV is hard, what with the water on the glass.
