I topped all ours up with the hose a couple of weeks ago. It means fewer chemicals per watering can as they are diluted. Also, I'm lead to believe the chemicals evaporate after a while if the water sits anyway, so that's why I do it when they're low - dunno if it's true tho!
Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me will be along soon!Last edited by Glutton4...; 03-05-2009, 08:01 PM.All the best - Glutton 4 Punishment

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Some people feel the rain, others just get wet.

I will have to resort to tap water tomorrow if we don't get rain tonight, and it's not forecast either . Today the sun has been shining and very windy. The greenhouse tomatoes need water, and I've so many containers that need a soak. I've a little rain water left, but that's reserved for the lime hating plants, as I'm in a hard water area.
More water butts are a great idea, as long as you have space for themLast edited by BarleySugar; 03-05-2009, 08:08 PM.I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

Spare a thought for us terraced house dwellers!
The only guttering I can attach a water butt too is under 5ft in length! All the rest on the house go to downpipes on neighbours properties on either side!
I haven't got round to stumping up for a butt, stand, connector and tap yet... I'm not sure whether it will be worth it for the couple of inches I'll collect!
I do leave numerous buckets in the garden when we're due a shower though!

WE are only supposed to 'get' the rain from the conservatory roof, all the other should go down next door's drainpipe. However when a 'repair' job went wrong up along the terrace a gap appear in the join in the guttering above our conservatory. It's one job I haven't nagged about, although if it's pouring down, hearing the TV is hard, what with the water on the glass.I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!
