My Dad had an Aston Martin in the 70s, a DB5 like the one in Goldfinger. Had an American exhaust, twin pipes, very loud that he reckoned broke the decibel limit in town!!. Only had 4" clearance underneath so we all had to climb out if we came across a hump back bridge as it scraped the road over bumps and no good with the sleeping policemen. Mind you it was good for clearing the snow in the lane outside our house as it was so heavy ton and half that it acted like a snow plough. A bit faster though, we clocked 145 on the M62 once which wasn't bad for car in those days. He always wished he got nicked doing that so that he could say that he'd driven at twice the speed limit. I hasten to add that it was in the very early hours of the morning and there was no other cars on the road.

When I first saw it I thought it wasn't very nice, we'd had a Vauxhall Victor before that, but when we went out in it I fell in love...within 3 weeks Mum told him to grow up...lol Never got to drive it as he sold it 8 years later before I passed my test. Only allowed me to clean the wire wheels with a bottle brush....those were the days. What a girl will do for her Dad.

When I was at college he used to "gun" it down the road so that I knew he was coming to pick me up. Ohhhhh the embarrassment. The other girls used to tease me rotten but I was secretly pleased as they thought he was my boyfriend.

Best thing was in winter when he used to take me to work at the local pub. If it had been snowing he would do handbrake turns round the carpark. Worked on wet leaves in the autumn as well. My last time out in it was for my 21st. He'd lost his business so a spin (literally) in the old girl and 2 bottles of wine were my pressie. Best one I ever had.

He had the number plate 00 77 00 on it and our surname is James. Well he did have a number plate manufacturing company so it was used to advertise his business.

I could go on all night. We had some great fun in that car and he sold it for what he paid for it £3,000. Wished he'd kept it, it would have been worth a fortune today...and I could drive it....I wish.
