Those posh looking Victorian bell cloches are pretty expensive and I would never buy one for myself. A couple of those is another idea.

I like the idea of a bench, but maybe a 1 person wooden seat with arms? something like this Buy Greenfingers Loreto Armchair
      BumbleB

I have raked the soil and planted the seeds
Now I've joined the army that fights the weeds.

I like the bucket of goodies idea, that would be fun to receive and/or something smaller, while things like rhubarb forcers and victorian cloches would make great gifts, I suspect they would also make a great target for theft. So something portable, a really good knife as suggested, all those things that are expensive and you rarely buy for yourself, top of the range tools etc.
One gift I appreciated was a tin of home made biscuits for my allotment elevenses, still have the tin now a home to teabags, biscuits long gone. Another shed fav is my wind up radio for when its pouring with rain and I need to retreat to shed, tea and Radio 4.
Would be good if there was room for a long-term plant/fruit tree I like having plants in memory of people/animals they are always imbued with something special.

There's some very nice looking knives there - definately on a list of 'like to be bought'.

            How about a tiller?
Could come in handy for an allotment holder and engineer

Gardening is a matter of your enthusiasm holding up until your back gets used to it.

                Decided...... I think!

Right then I think I've decided on the engraved trowel, garden centre vouchers and I've bought a selection of interesting seeds from Real Seeds because who doesn't love seeds!

I loved the tiller idea (as an engineer I know he'd love it!) but unfortunately our budget doesn't stretch that far!!!

Thank you so much for all the responses
