good for you - great feeling when things start to look up isn't it?. I've planted my sweetcorn out but it's looking very average courgettes and squash still inside, so looking good at the moment.

    have fun!

I'm glad you told me that. I was about to ditch a tray of them because they haven't come up after a week in the prop

I sowed a few of last years courgette seed and only 1 came up after about 2 weeks. I've sown some fresh seed and they're starting to show after 3 days. Seems it's not a good idea to save squash seed from year to year? Anyone else found this.

me mam and i planted some indian squash seeds (at least two years old) and they all seemed to come up within eight days or so. perhaps different varieties don't keep as well.

ok now my courgettes have actually started to grow, i need to think about where i am going to plant them when they get larger. I am growing in containers. Does anyone know how big it needs to be. Also how big a tub do i need for sweetcorn?

I sowed my courgette seeds a week and a half ago, wasn't expecting them to grow so big so quickly, i checked on my seedlings Thurday night and they had just started to poke through.
I went away for the weekend and when i checked on them yesterday (they were growing in a propagator tray in the cuboard)- MY GOD they had grown 6 inches and took the propator lid off!!! I wasn't expecting that- i really need asome big pots now lol

No idea with courgettes, but being of the same species as marrows, they love MUCK, so it might be that the 'filling' of the container is more critical than the size. The snag with sweetcorn is the need to have the plants in a 'block' for wind-polination.
Much of my veg gardening is 'container', but I plan to plant out some sweetcorn in a block, in a week or 2 when it has grown a bit bigger.
The only other things to go in the ground will be the 'accidental' plants, where I sprouted chickpeas and haricot beans from the supermarket.....

I've just noticed that my first chili, sown earlier this year, has it's first flower developing.

                              HOW EXCITING??????
