We had bangers and mash (with loads of butter and milk! out of cream) for dinner tonight aswell!
As far as comfort food goes: anything chocolatey, good thick home made soups, stews, roasts (inc. potatoes LJ), pancakes, fruit crumbles with lashings of thick custard, jacket spud with LOADS of butter and mature cheddar. I'm sure more will come to me now you've put me in this mind set!

Steamed steak and kidney pud with apple crumble/pie and custard for afters. If a lot of comfort is needed, a dollop of ice cream in the custard is naughty but nice

Babys head followed by train crash.

For any one without a forces background Induvidual Steak and kndney pie, mash followed by by Jam sponge and custard.

The forces are definitely a strange bunch.

For comfort food, love a good stew, big mug of proper hot choc made with milk and lashings of squirty cream on top. Don't often do puddings for reasons detailed on other threads (wheat :eek) but a good box of chocs helps.

I like food in winter that is the equivalent of a huge hug.

EB - you got in before me with the hot chocolate and squirty cream, but mine has to have marshmallows in it too: the proper sized ones, and as many as will fit in the top!

                    Hi Alison!

I've just posted my Mum's traditional Lobby recipe in the Stew's forum!!

Lobby is a traditional potteries dish, so your nan didnt make it up! The recipe we have was for a very thin stew, with steak and kidney as a base, so ours is a little different to the one you remember, but it may taste similar and I suppose you could always use it as a base to experiment from!

Mine has to be mashed potato with grated onion through it ( like my gran used to make) and lashing of ketchup. Hot chocolate with loadsa marshmallows. Or if I am feeling sophisticate loik I have a glass of port, a wedge of cheddar and a game of backgammon. Can't beat it!

Waffler I only get marshmallows if I've been to Sainsbury's as I can eat their's although I do love them. Wandering round the market this am my thoughts drifted to baked rice pudding with cream/honey/whatever/marrow lemon curd. Mmmmmmmmm.

A good lentil dahl is always good and yes agree with yoanbob about the lentil soup.

Ok I give up I'll eat pretty much anything.
