  • The path of my life is strewn with cow-pats from the Devil's own Satanic Herd!!

    Oh guy's, I need a hug,
Not only am I having troubles with The Mother - she's in hospital at the moment recovering from a very bad chest infection ( so that's a daily 100mile round trip to see her), but yesterday we noticed that one of the Big Bunnies was limping very badly - almost dragging a back leg. Took him to the vet's this morning and, yup, he's broken it!
Can't work out how it could have happened other than his big brother having jumped down from their "upstairs" bedroom while he was lying underneath and landed on him!
    Poor little b*gger, he's such a sweet-natured rabbit, and so-o-o friendly. If it's a clean break it'll cost about £200 to fix and - no- he isn't insured .
If it's a bad break, we'll have to let him go as apparently rabbits can't manage if they lose a back leg.
I feel so wretched. I know I should be more concerned about Mum, but she IS recovering and this feels like the rabbits leg is the camels back if you get my drift....

Good luck for bunny (and your Mother!). I know how you feel and may steal your title as my phrase of the year. Your vet is way cheaper than mine, though! Maybe there's Surrey-Added-Tax in our surgeries!

Thanks guys, the support is really appreciated.
SL, the quote I used is from the immortal Edmund Blackadder. I find myself quoting him a LOT these days.

I'm afraid I've lost my bunny. His leg was broken at the very top and they weren't able to save him.
Stupid to be so upset, people will say "it's just a rabbit" but none of my animals are "just" anything. They're family.

Oh so sorry Creemteez. I cried buckets when my cockatiel died. No animal is 'just' anything - you have a good weep. All our pets are special to us and we are allowed to mourn them in our own way. Hope Ma's doing ok.

                  Thanks Flum,
You are so right. They just get under your skin so, and Arthur was such a big character.
Mum is doing better every day. They are hoping to transfer her to a local cottage hospital for some Occupational Therapy some time this week. She'll still need a lot of care when she gets home though - she's on oxygen 24/7.

Sorry to hear about your rabbit. As said previously, all pets are friends and are missed when they leave.

Such sad news about Arthur, I know exactly how you feel. I remember kids at school taking the mick out of me when Polo my Guinea Pig died 'its not like its a dog or a cat' they said. She was a very special little character, and she loved me as much as I loved her. I still miss her 20 years later.

...and I hope you mother makes a speedy recovery. I'm glad she's been transferred, thats a good sign.

Oh poor bunny but he is hopping around in bunny heaven. Hope your mum will be better soon. Its all very well making big hospitals but that makes it harder when you are so far away. Hugs to you hope to meet you soon.

(((((Hugs)))))) Creemteez. Poor Arthur, poor you I hope your life gets a little easier when your Mum is moved a bit closer.

Perhaps the cow-pats might come in handy later as fertiliser....

Thanks again everyone! It's been a rotten day, Mr Teez is out of phone reception and all my friends/family have been out at work, so having you lot to off-load on has been a huge help. You're all great.
(..and Starwiz - Yes, I do aim to put Satan's cow-pats in my "composter" and have something good come from them!)
