Can you believe this? The muppet Brown who is not elected can still mess about until next June!!! The Queen should stand in and force him to call an election, or sack him!!

What is the last possible date for a general election? - Electoral Commission
Five years is the maximum period for a Parliament. This is specified within provisions contained under the Septennial Act 1715, amended by Section 7 of the Parliament Act 1911.

The five years run from the first meeting of Parliament following a UK Parliamentary general election. The current Parliament was first summoned on Wednesday 11 May 2005, so will cease to exist at midnight on Monday 10 May 2010. A general election to elect the new Parliament must be held by no later than Thursday 3 June 2010.

      Hi

All this scadal is just selling more news papers, its not meant to improve parliament.
Most of it is pandering to the masses.
MPs have two homes, because there families sometimes live more than 200 miles from their father/mother. MPs have made mistakes, but the majority are working in what they think is the publics interests.
Not one MP has broken the law.

Its not about whether they have broken the law or not, its the fact that they use our money to determine what they fancy buying. I was watching one of them today trying to justify why he had purchased expensive book shelves to house papers he had taken home.

        Is it me?

I disagree with the extent of what they can claim, they have good salaries, and work away from home, hello can a lorry driver legitimately claim for a second home and all its trimmings while he is away.

This needs to be resolved, the only legitimate expenses should be fuel allowance, hotel rooms, and meals. Anything more is a liberty. simples.

As a matter of fact there is nothing in electoral law that says we must have an election on a Thursday one can be held on any other day it's just tradition that we have them on Thursday.

They have gone against the spirit of the rules. A great number are only doing so to a modest degree, but some are truly extracting the micturation. They need somewhere to stay within reach of the Westminster Gasworks, as well as a home in the constituency. Some have claimed regarding homes that are neither London, nor Constituency which HAS to be out of order (morally, if not legally).
#If they claim (as some do) for mortgage payments, then when they leave Parliament, or sell the home, the country should own a proportion of that home according to the payments made, otherwise they are profitting directly from an asset paid for with taxpayers' money!

Dating, I believe, from the late 19th Century, when the working classes (some of them at least) first got the vote. They generally got paid on Friday, so Thursday was the day they were poorest, therefore most likely to be sober, therefore most likely to vote: so, at least, ran the thinking of their social superiors.

I cant stand Jaquie Smith or the other one whatsher face cant think of her name with red hair, they are both smug, look at me women, who always seem to smirk rather then smile, they, like most MP'S are not in touch with the real world, they dont have to manage on a pension or minimum wages, and yet they still get away with wasting money on luxuary's that most of us can only dream about. I would like them all have to manage on what the rest of us do. Not just for a week but for longer.

I've thought for a long time that all PM's including the PM should as part of their conditions of office have to: use public transport at least once a week, use the NHS on the same basis as the rest of us and send their children to the nearest non private and non church school. It would focus their minds admirably on the real issues.

FG, agree they aren't breaking the law, but they're taking the mick ain't they. Claim expenses yes (within reason) not mortgage payments though, they chose a 2nd home, maybe they should have chosen a smaller one that they could afford to pay for. They don't need flash TVs or fancy furnishings, they need a roof over their head (like the rest of us.)

I want to know who signed off these expenses and transferred the money to them? That would be an interesting topic. Media carp again! Someone signed it off and paid them the expenses then suddenly the MPs are over the front page (they're wrong in claiming what they did) but it was passed by some department and the expenses paid. I want to know who they are?

I've forgotten who it was with the 16 000 on the paid off mortgage but he apparently submitted bank statements showing 800 a month going into a saving account instead of a mortgage account. How is that a mistake? How is that not fraud and theft?
