I won't use any auto-correcting spell checker. Sometimes I WANT to type words it doesn't know!
Me too but I have children who think it's funny to keep turning it back on...won't let Microsoft limit my vocabulary or force American spelling on me (so there Bill Gates!)
I always turn it off too - if I have a mental block, I just look THE word up! Incidentally, you can change THE 'English US' setting to THE 'English UK' I've just had to do it after re-installing everything on my new hard drive.

I proof-read survey reports (OH types his own, so I get to proofread) and I like having Word set to highlight what it thinks are errors, but let me decide what to do about them. Sometimes it is obvious he has been 'autocorrected', when a word doesn't make sense (or, more often, simply isn't a word he would use in a report) but isn't highlighted as a spelling error. I'm glad we don't have to share a computer!

You should have a go at proof-reading text that has been translated from German to English, that's really interesting. Germish as I like to refer to it. Spellcheker is completely useless in that instance.
Speel chick can be quite yooseful in meye job, but we use DNA sequences quite often, which can be interesting. This is an epic grammar fail from MS Office, so funny I saved it...
Consider printer ink, biro ink and especially time saved by not using definite article - shorter letters, shorter speech - does anyone have stats? time saved in week, month, year? Can someone work it out?
Meantime I'll put feet up and have cup of tea.
Just read above and feel pretty silly 'cause it reads pretty silly.
Will get coat...

That gets me every time Wayne! Becasue I know how to spell it but my fingers don't!
Exactly my problem ma - I blame it on the fact that my fingers are so far away from my head. My nerves play Chinese whispers with the words my head sends down.
