Either sat here twidling my thumbs or paceing up and down. Phoebe my 9 month old Basset Hound bitch has gone into the vets today to be speyed (spl.). I know it sounds pathetic but I'm in a bit of a state. (If worrying was an olympic event I'd bring back gold every time).

Slinging it down outside so can't work in the garden. Can't get motivated enough to tackle any of the house work. Just put TV on. Good lord, didn't realise just how bad daytime TV is. What crap. So here I am visiting the vine and waiting for the phone to ring.

There are few things worse than a pet in the vets'. And I should know, my old lab virtually lived there towards the end, bless him. Even a two year old child though can have the rudiments of a visit to hospital explained to them, whereas a dog is never going to understand and that makes it worse. When Theo was at the vets' I used to greet him feverishly when I picked him up then quickly hurry to the car, leaving OH to sort out the bill. I hoped he'd remember me 'rescuing' him, rather than me leaving him there in the first place. At least speying is quickly over and she'll soon be home, then you can give her lots of extra hugs.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

Hi Snuffer, sorry you're feeling blue. It can be a tense time but I'm sure she'll be fine. Just think of all the pampering you'll give her when she gets home!

Rain on its way here, but not so bad at the moment. Doesn't really make any difference as I'm at work and can't take advantage of it.

Haven't spoken to you before, but just had a quick look at some of your threads. What about all your cats? Silly question I suppose, considing their natures, but where are they when YOU need a little tlc??

I am going soft in my old age. I'm a 47 year old bloke who in the past has broken; both arms, a wrist, a foot, several fingers, ribs, spine and neck. Never once did I make a murmer except for a few choice expletives. But have to leave one of the dogs at the vets and I'm sat in the car park weeping like a baby. I know it's rediculous but I can't help it.

Hi sweetiepea. yes the cats are here, Badger is sat on my knee and Bertie (my other Basset Hound) is by my side. Even Bertie looks a bit miserable, I'm sure he is missing his pal.

Looking forward to this afternoon when we can go and fetch her back.

            Awww....Know How You Feel!

            And it's horrible!

Snuffer, your baby will be fine, if a little disgruntled. And she'll feel better spayed, no unwanted suitors bugging her happiness. Will you have a special treat for her later? Our mogs get tuna in spring water after a vet visit.

With all our moggies we spend quite a time at the vets. Last time, although the vets did their best, the cat, Fred, couldn't be saved after a car hit him. The vets were great, they tried various means of rescuss and gave him back to us in a lovely blanket. We didn't even get a bill.

I'm glad they are with you snuffer they can be great company. Take solace in knowing that you're doing the best for your dog. She'll be all the better for it.

One of our cats is having a terrible time at the moment being pursued by three brutes. Well, she's not actually ours. Daisy 'belongs' to a cousin, but the poor thing isn't cared for. She kind of half adopted us last summer, and brought us three wild, emaciated and very sick kittens. Thank God they are all healthy, happy and in permanent residence now. In November Daisy (as she prefers to be called - she didn't like her owners name of 'Scooby'!!) arrived with a beautiful little thing we called Cuddles, but she 'disappeared' at Easter. (Dogs across from us are being blamed. They killed their owner’s pet rabbits, and are known to have killed other cats too. Terrible.) DS dreadfully upset. However, Daisy has decided to stay officially adopt us, and is now in residence 100% rather than 70% of the time. To mark the occasion arrived with three waddling balls of fluff! Two seem to have met the same fate as poor Cuddles, but we still have Hamish who DS is keeping a close eye on. Anyway, (and sorry to waffling on) Daisy will be paying a visit to the vet in the near future, but unfortunately not until the next litter is born. When we realised she was in season again it was too late. The vet says an operation now would be complicated and risky and so we have to wait. When I see what she's been through over the last few days, I know that having the 'op' will make a huge difference to her. All our other cats are done, even the Toms, and they are all reaping the benefits.

Kow exactly what you are going through. Pacing the floor and not being able to settle. Won't be long now and your baby wll be back home with you. Mine always get a 'special tea' when they've had a GA - how sad is that Bet she will 'milk' this for all its worth for a couple of days - sad eyes, looking miserable and worst of all 'lead' exercise only - bloody hard if you've got Springer Spaniels like I have. I'm involved in Springer Rescue and our fosterers get just like you and they post on the forum and we all end up pacing.

Thinking of you and your baby - let us know how she is

Thankyou all for your kind comments, understanding and support. Have just been to collect Phoebe. She is fine, if a little (well, alot) sleepy. Don't think she'll be very interested in food for a while but when she's ready there's a nice roast chicken in the fridge. If Bertie (our other Basset) is lucky I'm sure Phoebe will share it with him.
