  • My Kabul Brick

    What to do with it?
The old British embassy in Kabul had an arch over the gate with 16 bricks, with the word Kabul on them. They were the only 16 in existance. When the embassy moved to the other side of the city, the bricks were taken as well, but somehow one got lost in transit and eventually has ended up in my house, unsure how of course.
Clearly there's a bit of history in this brick, and I would love to do something where its a focal point, but also it has to be able to be transported should I ever move from here.
Apart from hand it back to its original owner, (which wont happen) does anyone have any suggestions?

Imagine a Victorian red brick, on its side but in the shape of a rugby ball. It has the word Kabul in the frog (I believe that is the word for the middle of a brick?).
Smoking is interdit in my house so the ashtray bit is out, although I spose I could have it out in the garden as one. I just dont want it to go missing (as its done once in its life already) or damaged.

Is there a part of your house/garden you could incorporate it into?

Sadly BW I have no imagination or "eye" for that sort of thing. Thats why I am seeking inspiration from the artistic folks of the vine, and also the practical ones, cos I do want to take it with me should I ever move

Spect so ... frog is the name for the hollowish middle bit of a horse's hoof.

                          Above the door?

Do you want it visible, or hidden so it doesn't go missing?

Could you incorporate it into, say, the chimney of a brick built barbecue, but pack round it with newspaper instead of mortar, then remove the newspaper?
