I've recently joined two Freecycle groups, yes I know I live in France, but I've friends who'll collect on my behalf should I find what I'm after, but I'm intrigued to understand the term a few of you have used, namely "I won such and such". I thought the idea was if you were the first to contact the advertiser, you'd be the recipient of the goods on offer. Or is this the term used to denote that you were the first?? Je me suis confusée.com!!
In theory, the advertiser selects from replies, but there are many who simply take the first reply, regardless of how rude/polite it is. Quite often, a 'taken' post appears about 2 mins after the initial 'offered' one on my group. Most frustrating for those of us with lives!
Freecycle does exist in France Nog, but its just not very well subscribed to, certainly not in my area anyway. The French dont really do the giving stuff away thing. They are second to none hospitality wise, certainly amongst my friends, but the thought of giving something away to someone they dont know, for nothing, is anathema to most of them.

Life's disappointments are so much harder to take if you don't know any swear words.

That is a yahoo 'groups' message, just check the email addy you gave freecycle for the updates. Mine are sent every day but I have heard other groups are not as organised.
Another thumbs up for Freecycle. I got a Cross-Trainer yesterday!!! Flippin eck! Now I can watch Neighbours AND exercise!!! No more guilty telly watching for me, lol!
I love Freecycle. It's amazing what you can get rid of. Once was able to get rid of an old, tangled, wire fence that I thought I would have to go to the dump to get rid of! Just said to take it from the garden and one day it was just gone And in a few days time I'm getting two arms chairs for my new flat. I LOVE FREECYCLE.
I've given away lots and received lots on the Stafford and the Cannock Freecycle. I've got my preferences set so I receive a "digest" each day rather than hundreds of emails. I must admit though, as the digest doesn't get to me till the evenings, lots of the items have already been taken. I've only had 2 no-shows though, and like lots of others, I ignore the sob stories, to me they're not relevant
I'm just finishing titivating the chicken coop with fence paint (freecycle), floor tiles (freecycle) and wood for perches (freecycle) It's looking dead posh now
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there
Free is a dirty word. I remember someone I did work for putting a Fridge freezer on the drive with a ticket that said free to a good home. No one came to collect it, so he put a £30 sign on it instead and it was nicked that evening. Free = useless to a lot of people.
