I haven't got used to chrome yet, seems far more annoying to me. Why do they have to change things that aren't broke.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

I have been using Chrome for about three weeks and it has doubled the speed for me don't have to wait ages for page's to load .
I am in a very rural location and 3 mile's from exchange but the thing works that much faster with Google i am happy with it ..jacob

I hate my local freecycle (I suspect a couple of poster in this thread are members) it's run by a bunch of jumped up little nazi's.

I don't often post to the group but I have replied to wanted ad if I have something offer (the wanted ads usually remind me of something that is gathering dust) but I have had wanted posted of my own deleted as you have to have offered 3 things before you can post a wanted. Which is fair enough but they would not accept that I had given stuff to wanted ads. there is no way to reply to the "group" when you reply to a wanted ad. Also the woman who runs the group seems to post a lot of taken/received posts and as there is a delay from when someone posts to when it's goes out to the group I think she is cherry picking what she wants.

I had a big clear out last year and posted loads of ads and I had nothing but grief from the whole process. I got begging emails, rude emails, the same people emailing me for everything, people not turning up.

We gave away an baby seat for the car which was in almost pefect condition and the guy emailed me a couple of days later complaining that it didn't fit in his car (like it was my fault). I then saw it on ebay (I know it was the same one because he used my picture I used on the freecycle ad). I complained to the group but he is still posting wanted ads.

Some good stuff is offered locally but I never get it when I reply but the most annoying thing is the wanted ads. There are so many now, I have no problem with folk asking for stuff I have done but it's the really specific wanted ads for what would be a really expensive item to go out and buy.

My experience with the local group has really put me off freecycle to the point that I have a pile of stuff in the garage which I am loath to dump but I don't want the hassle of putting it up on freecycle.

The most annoying thing is when people don't bother to turn up and collect the items. I offered a very nice wine rack (it holds 70 bottles) 4 times and got loads of emails and promises of collecting it. I got sick of it and left it out the front and one of my neighbours called in and asked could he have it.

What always surprises me is not the begging/sob story emails but the ones who are just plain rude when asking can they have something you have offered.

Now I agreed with all your gripes, as I've had them, too, but this was uncalled for!

I agree with some of funstuie points....it must be very tempting to cherry pick. One group I am on you seee loads of Taken Posts that were never offer posts....I also like the people that email you "what does it do" I always reply If you don't know what it does you don't need it.

To take advantage of this thread slightly, as I am in France and Freecycle just doesnt really work here, if anyone sees a petrol mower could they grab it for me, and I will pick it up from them when I am over in UK next week?

Oooh I love Freecycle too! When we lived in London, we managed to clear loads of computers/bits of computers/other bits and reclaim our hallways..and also get bits for our baby (now almost two, woah!). We barely bought anything new for her (just a mattress to go with our Freecycle moses basket and some reusable nappies).

Since we've been here in Kent, I managed to get loads of fab toys for her too - a slide, rocking horse, and, most recently, a baby born doll plus accessories! Brilliant.

I have also managed to rehome some of my excess seedlings (and there have been many). But you do get people wanting everything or saying, "I'll have that" like they're doing you a favour! Grr.

                        I love freecycle too!

When we moved a year and a half ago we had LOADS of things that we needed to get rid before we moved and freecycle was a godsend. I must have posted over 100 items from tiny things right up to pieces of furniture.

I only ever had a couple of people not turn up, a couple of begging emails and a couple of rude emails. The VAST majority of people I met were absolutely lovely. I think it helped that I deleted all the 'what's your address, I collect now' emails before putting the names of people most local to me in a hat and choosing someone that way. I must have weeded out a lot of the annoying people!

I'm sure a few people were going to sell the stuff on but I really didn't care, I didn't have the time or the inclination to do it so good luck to them!

I've become a bit of a freecycle evangelist and offered things on freecycle on behalf of my Mum and Dad, Nan and Grandad, next door neighbour and even my Aunts baby grand piano!

Since moving I've offered a load of things on my new local group and the experience hasn't been so good but I'm still able to give things away to people that can make use of them even if it is a bit more hassle than the last group.

Until yesterday I think I had only been lucky enough to receive a couple of little items which weren't quite as described when I picked them up but yesterday someone kindly let me have a greenhouse which I'm going to pick up tomorrow!

It's further than I'd normally travel (as I don't have a car) but my folks are going to help me move it and I'm hiring the local car club car so that we can move it. I'd never go this far (in mileage or effort!) for a small item but for a greenhouse... hell yeah! I still can't believe it! Grinning like a fool!

A free greenhouse from freecycle is just brilliant. Congrats.
Nog, appreciate the offer, many thanks. Saw a 20 year old one at a vide grenier (French car booty) last weekend, and they wanted over €200 for it. Pah!!

Here is a bit of grape freecycling.................I have a virually unused helmet, wrist and elbow protectors. My friends used to rollerblade so I decided I wanted to, I thought I could get fit. The fact that I had no sense of balance as a child and could never roller skate seemed to have slipped my memory at the time. So, I bought the best including expensive blades (subsequently sold on Ebay). Anyway I was absolutely hopeless and although I sold the rollerblades I had forgotten I still had all the protection, that is until I moved house.

If you want them they are yours, I'm only about 30 miles from you, so not too far to collect.
