Certainly never had a problem in the time I was in the kibbutz. All the household chores were done, as was the collective work too. I was only a young lad but do know that there didnt seem to be anyone slacking, it gets noticed very quickly if someone isnt pulling their weight, but didnt happen where I was certainly.Bob Leponge

When i was an art student i lived in all sorts of flats and shared houses some no better than squats when i look back, pretty grim. At the time it was fun in a bohemian, artist in the garet way but i would hate to do it now, i love my own room to breathe and to just be after a long, hectic day at school.
If you think about it we are all part of a commune as we all come together on this website as avid veggie growers to share our experiences and support each other. When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. ~Author Unknown

My time in Orkney had elements of 'commune' in that people tended to help each other as necessary (e.g. shopping was a major undertaking, so whoever was going to the shops bought for everyone, and if you ran out of something, there was sure to be a neighbour who had some to spare) but with about 25 adults and up to 20 children living on an island, and a mile of water between there and the next island, folk could get on each other's nerves VERY effectively. There were 2 on-going feuds (pairs of households who met as rarely as possible, in one case peace meant them not meeting at all, in the other, they were painfully polite when an encounter was unavoidable) and always at least one other temporary feud.
It didn't help in the least that everyone who lived there was something of an individualist. The collective term for individualists is an argument!Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

Havent yet lived in a commune as such, but living in barracks in the forces does come close, a shared community and a place where everyone helps each other, so in that sort of spirit.Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.
