Via the wonders of witchcraft I put a CD into my PC and then listen to it on my iPod. Quite what happens in between will forever remain a mystery to me.

Printemps - your explanation of CD ripping will will be printed off and stuck on my wall! That was going to be my next question... it does sound reasonably straight forward.

TEB - What does media monkey do that Windows media player doesn't do?

Quite looking forward to reclaiming a huge corner of our sitting room by getting rid of CD player, and shed loads of cds.

Now here's another question - I've a huge stack of mini disks - the big idea that never really took off! How do I turn THOSE into MP3s!??

You know that mp3s are highly compressed files? If sound quality is important to you then you should keep the CDs. mp3s are Ok on little earpieces but you may notice a difference when playing back through your hifi.

I could never get rid of my CD's - no matter how obsolete they become.

Been through a lot together we have.

You're all right of course - but isn't there a way of creating MP3s that aren't quite as compressed.

Cds in our house now don't last very long - once the children have got hold of them - scattered them around, then used them as ice skates!

My Cd and mini disk players are dying too - I need to get my minidisks digitised before everything collapses on me!
