Depends on the version of WMP but if its ver 11 then MediaMonkey displays in a format that I prefer, offers better search (handy for me in the type of music I listen to), also has scripting (if your in to that sort of thing), for a review against other players check out WMP vs Winamp vs iTunes vs Media Monkey REMATCH - Top MP3 music player

PS Have heard that FOOBAR2000 is pretty good as well foobar2000

Software, new technology, new inventions for instance when Black and Decker started selling the workmate they paid the inventor of it £0.50 for every one sold, its just transparent to us that all. While I dont agree with the charges that the music industry apply I dont see how you can say that an "artist" shouldn't charge for their work every time its played.

But even those examples have a limited life due to patent expiring. Royalties are forever and on top of that are the charges brought by the Performing Rights Society.

May have this wrong but I thought music royalties were in fact copyright royalties and this does have a "shelf life", and as for PRS then it doesnt really apply to the end user in the sense of what was previously discussed.

Copyright expires after 50 years I think. That's why you see tons of Best of... CDs coming out just before the copyright runs out (ie. Beatles, Elvis etc)

Copyright means you can't copy without permission, applies to books as well (you can't photocopy every page of a book, print them out, and sell the copy, but no-one actually wants to). It is similarly illegal to make your own version of (for instance) a perfume, and sell it under the original name. If it isn't a perfect match, that is fraud; if you got the recipe and followed it, that is breach of copyright.
Royalties are about performance (these days playing music or films for others to hear and see, but originally playing music on instruments, singing, or acting a play, if it is not a strictly private performance).
Royalties are payable for the right to entertain others (especially if paying) with a live performance of someone's music or play, for a certain length of time. It used to be until 75 years after the original creator died (Great Ormond Street Hospital relied for 75 years on the Royalty income from commercial performances of Peter Pan. The author J M Barrie left his Royalty rights to the hospital in his will).

                Literary, Dramatic or Artisitic Works
Copyright lasts for 70 years after the year of a known author's death. For unknown authors it expires 70 years from the end of the calendar year in which the work was first made available to the public. If a work is produced by two or more authors then the copyright lasts for 70 years after the death of the last of the authors to die.

Sound Recording, Broadcasts, Cable Programmes and Computer Generated Works
Copyright lasts for 50 years from the end of the year they were made, released or first broadcast.

I use iTunes on my PC for my iPod, but do find it a faff. My DH has a Walkman, which I hated until I realised that it's all drag'n'drop - piece of cake! Will be looking at Walkmans myself now.

Look out for my cheap old Nano on eBay shortly...
