My bargain for today

Went to the GC today and saw that they had a bargain section. I managed to pick up 2 of these for £2.50 each - extremely chuffed.

Now what to plant up them... clematis, sweet peas....????

Sweet Peas? (I've got my bamboo canes made into wigwams ready for my peas and beans in a couple of weeks).

I want to put these at the back of the garden on a gravelled area. Could I place a black plant pot of Sweet Peas in the midde of the obelisk and train them up the way or would I require more compost than that?

I'd go for a bigger pot and stand the obelisk in it.

I wish it was a nationwide thing - I'm always on the lookout for bargains to share on the Vine.

Just happened that it was a local GC that has a bashed and reduced section. One of the finials at the top is slightly bent so nothing that can't be fixed. Really worth finding yourself a nice assistant in these places and asking if they have any goodies out back. I did it with Homebase 2 weeks ago and my neighbour and I struggled home with a pallet of burst bags of MPC for a tenner stuffed into the back of her Focus.

Also got 4 large glazed ceramic planters and one small one for £11. The large pots were ex display and are attached to a wooden plinth with a butterfly screw - just got to unscrew it and I can use them for more herbs.

Lol, It's amazing what you can grow in a ceramic pot. That's our youngest dog, who funnily enough, is called Blossom.

If growing sweetpeas from seed start them off indoors first, less slug damage that way and they wont take long, I would say 2 or 3 ??? per obelisk or get some plants. I have loads of varieties this year but last year I grew Spencer mix and they smell beautiful.

Oh I'd grow peas too NOG. I have 3 of those obelisks - all different types (and all WAY more that £2.50!) that I got for a previous birthday. They've got peas on now.

Mrs (your not growing your veg in my garden get an allotment) NOG. Has relented only on Strawberrys and Peas....they can be grown in the garden now.

Strange...how she eats both of them whilst still at the plot.
