Ive just become a sprouter now do I need extra care on these frosty nights does my OH have to cover me in fleece!!

You've got it, Ugly Gourd. We all need all the care we can get. Just remember what goes around comes around. And, congratulations on being a Sprouter. I think I'm a Tuber, but I've no idea what any of that means . Does anybody else. I know Nick's a Guru - but we all know what that means - and very well deserved.

Oh **** am I meant to be covering my artichokes . I thought they where hardy and I just left them alone till next year!!!

I had to laugh when some sheds were broken into one of the allotment holders came to see me to say what had been stolen nothing had but they had set up her chairs and wound her fleece around themselves to keep warm!!
shame they forced all the shed doors just to be nosey

Globe Artichokes should be cut back and the crowns covered with leaves or bracken (If you are posh). I cut the leaves off cover the crown with leaves and then use the Artichoke leave s to stop the leaves blowing off.

The leaves are full of sap and will freeze if it gets cold.

You should be left for your foiliage to blacken then lifted & re-potted in a tray in compost & kept dry & frost free Alice - assuming your a dahlia tuber & not part of a brass band, in which case some big bloke pucckers up to you & blows
