No, not everything. Just thoughtless, mindless acts of selfishness and stupidity
As (some) people seem unable to police or take responsibility for themselves, the "authorities" have to be called upon to do it for them. Sad but true.

Perhaps public sale fireworks could be decibel limited? BUT I fail to see that, as a responsiblish citizen, why I can't burn a few hedge clippings and have a couple of Catherine wheels for the kids at the bottom of my own garden should I so wish.

I am so bored of this government's prohibition policies...maybe we should stop celebrating it because Guido Fawkes was right after all....Blow the place up

(doorbell rings) that must be the thought Police now to arrest me for incitement to cause explosion.

The public sale of fireworks IS decibel limited, a new law came in a few years ago although I havn't noticed any reduction in noise level yet.
I agree with you, why not have a bit of fun celebrating GF night (although Guido must be turning over in his grave) but lets do it safely and not with enough high explosive to blow someones arm off.

Well, I think that tonight was probably as bad as it's going to get this year. Everything's gone fairly quiet now but doggies still won't go out into the garden, but at least I can turn the noisy radio off. We've had some pretty foul weather up here in North Wales and that has probably kept the noise and the smell down a bit.

We've had fireworks every night since we can remember. Now the shops will be reducing their stock, so we'll have them for a few nights to come.

WE've been having fireworks being let off during the day and nearly every night for the past few weeks. It's getting on my nerves, and I'm not holding my breath for a let up until after christmas.
Cats were in last night. Boo and Max had to be brought in and the back door shut cos they were barking at the bangs and were likely to become a nuisance themselves

I dont mind fireworks but in the right place at organised events you dont have to be in the middle of it all find a quiet place and watch from a distance. The NHS keeps saying they cant afford ABC but how much is used to patch up people who set off fireworks in tiny gardens and get injured or kids who get hold off them and well say no more. Sorry to sound grumpy but our near neighbour has just launched their fireworks at my thatched roof so I had 3 dogs leap on me and a hubby yelling at them hes a fireman so I dont think hes panicing for nothing.

                  I'm with you UG,

Even as a Kid I hated the damn things, It amazes me that any Tom, Dick or Harry can go to their local supermarket and buy explosives!! If it's an organised display, then thats fine as the they will last longer & look better than what most folks have.

I used to belong to a club that organised a display every year and these were so much better than anything I could have done.

I guess it comes down to £sd in the end as the income from all this must be quite a bit.

course it is. everything is down to money. Tax, commerce, business. Anything goes if it makes someone some money/jobs. Fireworks provide tax/employment, injuries provide jobs for nurses - everyone's a winner.

I would hope that it would work the other way and be a vote winner!

Yes, I'm worried about a big ban, but it is getting out of hand, someone who lives near me and it's impossible to work out who, has a firework fetish and throughout the year we get nights when it sound like a replay of WWII. They're so loud and many seem manufactured to make deep, booming, bomb like noise without the sparks and lights. As well as possible dangers it is noise pollution after all, the amount of people "enjoying" the noise and lights must be far outweighed by those having to suffer - hardly seems fair.
Thank goodness my cats seem laid back about it all, and the hens, on Sunday seemed fine after the main celebrations on Saturday.

We don't like the whizz bang fire works, They terrify me (Sebbs) I dont understand the noises. I try and hide under mums bed, Dad put the Kieser Chiefs on the stereo for me- have to say i'm not sure which is worse! Monty does not seem to get so upset by the bangs, he stays on the sofa. He had Perry Como to listen to, again, not sure which is worse? I think Mum is worried about us tonight though, as we both got a special chat this morning. We must be in before dark, before mum and dad get in! We will try.......honest??
Good luck to all our friends on this horrid night, stay with your owners and you will be safe, if caught outside then find a little spot and wait it out, thats if you cant get into your home!

Am sure that some law came in a few years ago that you couldn't set off fireworks after a certain time of night except on bonfire night (and possibly New Years Eve, not sure) but nobody seems to take any notice. Admitedly we went to a party on both Friday and Saturday nights this year, both at people's houses and both involving fireworks but not a bonfire. Both parties were great fun and all the fireworks let off by responsible and sober adults. We always keep our cats in over the weekend near bonfire night although neither seem that bothered. I did seem a bit excessive last week that they were going off all week and I'll never understand the people that spend money buying them and then set them off in daylight hours, but I suppose that they're not as bad as the idiot on the news that threw one into a shop, luckily the owner managed to kick it outside or it could have been so much worse. Problem is, if you put on a total ban to stop the idiots then reasonable people suffer too - taken to extreme we'd end up with bans on carving knives just because some idiots use them for violent means.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
