Is this not the same guy who told everyone that beetroot leaves are poisonous?

The ads I've seen look very much like he is a complete novice and very enthusiastic to boot (kind of like us!), so it will be interesting to see how it comes over! I'll probably watch it anyway, just to see what its like and make my mind up afterwards!

I must admit, the apricot coloured wall in the background (behind the raised beds) did make me feel a bit queasy

James Martin doing enthusiastic is a bit of a turn off. I don't have UKTV so I won't be able to partake and shall have to rely on your reviews.

                  Well, what did people think?

Personally I thought it was a huge wasted opportunity. To me it almost seemed like a good excuse ofr him to show off what he has (was there really any need to show him driving around in so many cars/bikes?)

As for the garden, I guess its nice to see what can be done when you throw thousands of pounds at it.

Don't think I'll watch anymore of the series, much preferred the new HFW last week.

Didn't actually see him growing anything, just bought plants and put them in the garden. He did buy seed trays but I didn't see him putting anything in them. I'm the same, don't think I'll bother again unless nothing else on.

My oh didnt understand why i was moaning about him buying all his plants and that hugh olive tree, must have spent a fortune(slight bit of envy i suppose as liked his raised beds) he did however comment on jm changing his watch in every shot so was a bit show offy i think.

I thought he came over very egotistical, very showy and seemed as if he had something to prove, note his quip about Jamie Oliver amongst other things! Yes, his garden looked lovely, but so would mine if I had as much time and money as he obviously does! And why do the whole judging chef's thing for the Times if it was supposed to be about growing your own veg? Sorry but it came over to me that he was trying to jump on the bandwagon of popularity that GYO'ing has and use it to show how super he is! A little Insecure perhaps?

I couldn't have worded it better Mrs D! I did giggle at a couple of his remarks though. More actual gardening needed methinks! DDL

The problem with gardening is it isn't really posey. You can't really do it in Armani jeans etc.
