i think james is doing a great job raising the profile of cooking and now growing fresh fruit and veg.. so what if he gardens in armani jeans does his clothes make his veg grow any less??? and as for showing off the guy works his a-s-s off he is always going to fairs and food competitions and back up to yorkshire for judging at castle howard and scarborough college....he is doing this garden by himself in-between cooking... if 3 off his fans go and start to grow their own produce then the guy should be clapped not slated...do any of u raise the profile of organic food????

Is this the guy from Ready Steady Cook- doing a gardening program??
Not seen it, but surely anything which raises awareness of healthy food must be good? (Even if we could have produced/directed it more to our tastes?)
Bet LJ (and a few others!)would watch Hugh FW presenting a program on car maintenance (just think of all that bending over gals!!!!!)

Fudgelover, I dont know the guy, nor have any real ideas what he does apart from what I saw, so my comments were only made from what I picked up from watching the prog the other night, not from any personal vendetta or because I have anything against him personally! I also didnt mention his clothing, I'm afraind what type of clothing anyone wears doesnt even register on me, as long as they are comfortable and warm, then what brand doesnt really matter IMHO!

From what you have told me of what he does in terms of his commitment to his native Yorkshire, then he does sound like a nice guy, but if I'm watching someone on TV on a prog about GYO, then thats what I would expect to see, not other things that didnt really have anything to do with GYO!

Do I do anything to raise the profile of organic food? Apart from feeding my family as well as possible without breaking the bank and talking to my extended family and friends about it, then no, but I'm not someone in the public eye as he is, so its not something I can do during my working day, I wish it were, but it isnt an area I work in, so I can only say sorry that I dont!!
        Blessings

yeah thats they guy....he is really passionate about food and different ways to make unhealhty foods healthier. this is why he started doing a prog about his garden... he was raised on a farm and saw where his food was coming from he just wants to raise the awareness of future generations too... do u know if u ask primary school kids today where fresh food comes from they say well known supermarkt names.. a minoroty actually say from the ground- the sea- a tree.... jamie gets praised for raising the awarness of school dinners, james takes it farther back to where their grown and gets slated...very unfair dontcha all think...?!?!?1

Sometimes these celebs just read a script given to them, so they are really just the face.
I wonder how much imput he had into the funding /production /script / direction?
You never know- he too might be unhappy about how it has finally come out?
Will try and catch it next week- usually forget to watch these things!

well on that i agree with you all....the title does suggest that he will show you how he grows his fruit and veg...but the prog is on uktvfood and he is a chef so im championing his cause...lol in case nobody noticed that is....i think the format was suppossed to be how easy it is to grow your own food even with a busy schedule like james' (hence all the footage of food fairs and his in his cars) and what you can cook with them after they have grown, not so much on the actual gardening side...

We will be watching again tonight, perhaps with a bit more of an open mind than I would have had after watching it yesterday without having read Fudgelover's posts, so if nothing more FL's posts have opened my mind to giving it another chance!

Ok, just had to say JM got me giggling when planting his lettuces, I thought the idea was to plant the seeds about an inch apart and thin them out as they grow, not plant a whole packet in 5 inches!

Overall it was better than yesterdays episode (or perhaps I'm warming to the guy after learning a bit more about him), but again he was not growing from seed, but from pregrown plugs, a bit more expensive than from seed,m but if you can afford it then why not?
