The problem with suncream is that if you put it on, it lets you stay in the sun for longer, which is bad.
Wear a loose fitting top that cover most of your skin.
Hats do not feel comfortable for me, but if its really hot, wear a hat.

I have a folding hat, looks sort of Spanish almost like a very shortened top hat, but it is just thin fabric (inclusing a mesh panel at the back) on a springy 'wire' rim. If you twist the rim, it folds up into a circle about 5 inches across and totally flat. It doesn't really need to 'fit', being that shape and soft fabric, it is what my family tend to refer to as a 'Fitzherbert' (fitzherbert, fitzfred, fitzeveryone<g>). Got if from one of those odd little catalogues that come through the door at intervals.
Great for being out in hot weather, got enough 'brim' to protect my face (and eyes, I don't get on too well with sunglasses), and takes up no space at all if the sun goes in.
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

I've dug out a light coloured hat OH got on holiday one year but I've just ordered this from ebay so that should do the job!

Under £6 including delivery - definitely a good investment!

Regatta Sun Hat,adj.Straps S/M(58cm) Teflon Coated on eBay, also, Men's Accessories, Clothes, Shoes Accessories (end time 19-Jun-09 14:08:51 BST)

          I particularly like the straps!!!
