Like it! I agree - a different frame would make all the difference.

I studied art for two years back in the day (it was the only thing I was ever good at in school), and the amount of good work that would have been great if mounted better was untrue. We had whole lessons on how/what/why/where to display stuff.

I think water colour is a very difficult medium to master. If I were your Ma-in-law I'd be thrilled to bits wth a present like that. Well done!

I like your picture Darkcrystal. I'm quite sure your mother in law will be thrilled with it.

I agree with MrsC about the mounting and the frame. Something much lighter and more contemporary would look better - in fact it would be twice the picture mounted up differently. Thank you for sharing it with us.

I think your painting is beautiful. For me too, the heavyness of the frame overpowers the delicate beauty of the painting though. agree with comments above - double mounted or a simple clip frame would look great.

What a lovely picture. Your mother in law is very lucky!
I do agree that a lighter frame would suit better but maybe you chose the frame because it's a style she likes?
Anyway well done, wish I could paint like that.

I have to say, having seen it on the thread, that I do agree a plain colour frame would be better than that one. Black 'border' inside a narrow, starkly plain silver-or-gold frame would be my choice, but we all have different taste in these things. Definitely 'plain' though. The variation in frame colour doesn't go with the flower reaching all the way to the edge of the picture.
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.
