OMG...I have just found myself in the garden in the rain filling all the watering cans and buckets to make more room in the water butt...so as not to waste any of the free water. And I am not on a water meter.

Hahahaha That paints a fabulous picture NOG, I bet the neighbours think you're barking
The OH has been doing the same on the lottie - emptying the smaller butts into the big square one so the smaller ones can refill. Makes sense if this promised hot summer manages to stay for longer than a few days
Welcome to 'Early Fruiting' btw, you just did your 2000th post

I've been using the water out of my 1000 litre container to make way for the new stuff.
I've just recently did a bit of work for the allotment association though, digging out and replacing pipework and taps for a couple of plots (one of which borders mine)
Now that I have a useable standpipe, I've actually equipped myself with a hose and all the gadgets that go with it. Dying to use it but still loath to use tap water especially as I have about a dozen barrels as well as the 1000 litre tank full of water! My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order
to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)

Weather here has been hot for several weeks - and like, really really hot - so my water butts were down to their last 400 litres. Earlier in the week I was using an external pump to move some from storage into the right watering butts.
But the weather broke yesterday, lots of rain, all the butts filling nicely now so topping up - and it's likely to be wet across the region for the next few days so the buitts should fill nicely. Nothing wrong with collecting the rain in whatever comes to hand, saves money AND resources.TonyF, Dordogne 24220
