D-Day...

Will you please spend at least a few minutes to reflect today for the poor lads involved 65 years ago.
Last night we went to the firework display in the commemoration of this day .

I came away feeling saddened and sick at the utter waste of life of the young men involved. Nope not wasted - because something big needed to be done - but such a waste of young men.
Having seen piccies and videos and heard experiences just made me weep.

Me too and not long back from Helmand province,due back there again as well.No wonder I'm grey haired,thoughts for all our services for every day.

Just goes to show my generation and the next who didn't really experience war don't seem to be bothered much.

Hadn't it been for the war , there wouldn't have been allotments...we should all be grateful in more ways than one!

I watched the ceremony this afternoon and shed a few tears, I hear the last remaining veteran passed away, a few weeks ago, is this true? So many lives lost for the life we have now. Why doesnt everyone on the vine at 8pm take a minute of silence in memory?

You should see the size of the graveyards here for WWII ...and awfully ..the un -named graves..... Some poor woman's son or husband/father.

I saw your post earlier this morning. I didnt reply immediately because i couldnt formulate what I wanted to say without sounding trite. So many men gave their lives it is difficult to express the huge debt that we owe them. Thankyou for bringing this up Nicos

I have the deepest respect and gratitude for all our armed services and what they do and have done in many conflicts past and present. I visited the beaches and the cemeteries on the headland during a school trip over 10 years ago. Hard to imagine what happened there when it is so peaceful and beautiful now.
Every generation of my family has had someone who served, including my little sis who still does.
