I hadn’t considered this, but I think it’s an excellent suggestion. If I were to grow a couple of seedlings, how long would I have to wait to find out which were “male” and “female”?

HayleyB, Incy, Lemon, Two_Sheds, Alison Adams & BilboWaggins: thanks for your food suggestions. I am actually growing a lot of what you suggested this year just for the two of us, so it's good to know all of that will be suitable for Little Throup too.

Some of them do look nice! That may have to go onto the “consider” pile.

        As you asked so nicely:

I don’t know what I was expecting, but I was blown away by what we saw in the scan. This one capture doesn’t do justice to seeing arms and legs moving on the screen.

It might be safer to go for one of the other 'winter bearing' berry plants rather than holly. I know there are male holly trees, which never bear berries, and female ones that DO have berries, but no idea how soon you can tell them apart, and if you planted half-a-dozen seeds, no guarantee they wouldn't all be male (how many grapes have hatched clutches of eggs and got loads of cockerels?).
Pyracantha or similar might be safer (I can't remember which ones hold their berries all winter, but reasonably sure of this one).
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

Lovely clear picture. Congrats to you both!
Just a thought (though don't have little ones myself) my niece used to adore peas as a baby. Obviously this is a step further down the line from the pureed veg, but she used to pop peas like they were sweets.

CONGRATULATIONS! Scans are wonderful aren't they? I couldn't have copies of mine, only just invented the technology! But have copies of my grandchildren! YOU must be SO excited! As parents who are interested in GYO, your lucky offspring will have no worries re eating well. We expect to be kept updated with all your news, and DEMAND to have a photo of your offspring asap after the birth! I'm feeling all gooey and warm already!

Congratulations I had scans for my last two as it was only done if they thought there may be problems with my first three, no photo's for no four as they didnt give you one weather you paid for it or not so only have one scan picture of my daughter.
Any veg that you grow will be ok. I didnt grow veg untill recently so my kids missed out on home grown but I still bought veg for them and my daughter eats most veg and loads of it, not a fruit lover though.
