  • just been hit by a car

    Yeah really!
Got a heck of a sore bum (and head).

Was biking along, as you do, this car in front of me (facing me) was indicating to turn right ... but he decided not to wait.

I went over bonnet and slithered to the tarmac. Not very graceful, by all accounts. Got lots of attention from passers-by, which was nice, and the ambulance staff were lovely.

Police were ... same old same old. "he says he didn't see you".

me: "how could he not see me? I was right in his line of vision ... his windscreen"
them: "well it's your word against his"

I HAD THE RIGHT OF WAY! HE DIDN'T !! (see photos - it's taken from my position, and the white car is positioned where he was indicating to turn right)

I reckon he just tried to nip ahead of me and misjudged my speed, but the police "couldn't prove it".

So, lots of bruising and the bike might be written off (don't know yet, I had to leave it behind) but it could have been a lot worse. The driver is willing to pay any damages (until he learns it's an £800 hand built bike, that is).

What makes me really despair is the attitude of "oh, cyclists. Serves them right" when in fact if I'd been a child crossing the road, people would be Up In Arms about it.

    I am mortified for you!

Charge that driver for the full cost of your bike and tell him to thank his lucky stars your not filing an injury claim against him.

Oh sweetie, at least your ok - if a little bruised and deflated! Hugs!

      Ouch, hope you're ok.

If he didn't see you head on, he wasn't looking properly, therefore it must be dangerous driving!

I hate cases like this - it's always your word against theirs. Mind you, I did successfully bring a claim against a bus company when a bus decided to cross into my lane and take the front of my car off! He chucked all the passengers off the bus before I could get any witnesses, but the judge was fantastic!

Hope your bruises heal quickly! Try arnica

          Oh No!!!

          That's awful!

I know it could have been a lot worse, but it sounds painful enough now. Tomorrow you really will ache. Out with the arnica and paracetamol!

I should charge that dozy s*d for the full cost of your bike. Shame you can't charge for the inconvenience of waiting to have a new bike custom built.

I feel very cross on your behalf!

            Yikes!

That's awful. I hope you feel better soon and AT LEAST manage to get the bike paid for. It must be so frustrating.

*tsk tsk - you should have remembered to take your invisibility cloak OFF when you are cycling.

Sorry hun, hope you are ok.....I would usually swear at this point so
              What a $%^&$ a$$^&*) @@£$%$% car driving $$%^ with a ££$% for £$@£$s.

PS - is that what they say now...I didn't see you? Can they really get away with that? It's hardly your word against theirs, if you ended up on the bonnet is it?

WOW, are you ok? That's terrible, boy your going to be sore in the morning, make the "BEEP BEEP" man pay for your bike, it makes me so angry that some drivers (not all) just don't give a "FLUFF" for other road user's, lets hope the police charge him, he might think twice in the future???

That sounds like no fun at all T_S I'm glad you're not badly hurt physically but I hope Mr Sheds is on hand with a hug and some TLC.
I was feeling part of the scenery

Hope you feel ok, I bet you will hurt a lot more tomorrow or the next day so hot baths and tlc all round. And esrly to bed.
It must have been a terrible shock. Hope you get the compo on the bike.

I was with my cousin once on a ZEBRA crossing and a car didn't stop and hit her... luckily she was ok.

I bet the driver has a thing about bikes or was doing something else instead - phone, fag, reading the sun...

So glad you weren't more hurt.

Sh*t!!! What a f*%$ing #@n£*r!!! How the hell can he get away with "I didn't see"?! If you end up over the bonnet, then you were obviously there, and so he shouldn't be allowed on the road if he can't see stuff!! I am utterly confounded! I am very angry on your behalf If (God forbid) I ever had a cyclist off or had any other accident because 'I didn't see', I'd give up my license!!

Hope you don't feel too battered, for too long

I hope the driver was suitably mortified!

Obviously he should have seen you, but of course he 'didn't see you' - because if he had it means he deliberately ran you over!

I would like to think it shook him up too, and will make him rather more careful - as you say, it may not be a nasty knock and an £800 bike next time but a kiddie.

Hot bath, sympathy from Mr Sheds, a large glass of red this evening!

Blummin heck TS! Glad to read it is only bruises, hope he coughs up for the bike and a bit of compensation for you too.

If the silly beggar can't see, he shouldn't be on the road!
