My 13 year old daughter has always been quite good with eating veg, with only a few dislikes, but i were gob smacked today to catch her pinching the chopped up cabbage i had harvested this morn out of the pan while it were sat on the stove waiting for cooking .
Her excuse " it doesn't taste like shop cabbage! it tastes sweet and yummy mum" .
Feeding your children with good , organic home grown veg gives you a sense of satisfaction that warms your soul as a mother/father. Buying organic veg in a supermarket just does not compare in taste or feel good factor . She might not pay a great deal o attention to what is growing , but she is a great runner bean picker, and when she is having a fed up day she can be half distracted by asking her to sow seeds into modules .
Even at 13 they still enjoy a good sun flower growing comp too
I am sure half the reason lots of kids don't like veg is down to the verities grown by the mass commercial growers and the amount of time it takes to get them through the system, plus they lose a lot of the sweetness and the veg toughen up as they sit around exposed to the air an shelves.
How wonderful to see my lass pinching raw cabbage out o the pan because it tastes so good!! Makes a mothers work on the plot worth while
