  • One of the rabbits has broken its leg :(

in the most awkward place too, the vet didn't think it was likely that it could be pinned.

I suggested that they might be able to amputate it, but she didn't seem too keen, but I've been reading up on the net and plenty of rabbits go on to live happy lives with only one back leg!

It is one of my daughters rabbits, she has 3, all sisters from the same litter. She's absolutely devestated

I think she wanted to put her down tonight when I took her in, but is going to xray her tomorrow to see if they definately can/ cant pin it. It is with the pdsa, and I've got a feeling that even if they could amputate it, they wont because of the cost

I was wondering if anyone knows of a rabbit with only one back leg? Or maybe of any charities that will amputate her leg if it can't be fixed, there's no way I can afford it privately at the moment and it isn't fair that Rosie and my daughter should suffer because of it

I know of lots of rabbits with three legs and they cope absolutely fine. Even a few house rabbits that still go up and down stairs! Once they have healed up they are sooo speedy, you wouldn't believe they were short a leg.

The only thing they need help with is cleaning their ear on the side that's missing. They can't scratch out the goo any more.

Thank you Tamsin, that is great to hear and great advice on the ear cleaning.

I'll have a look at the forum in a minute you sent me a link to, assuming Rosie doesn't dye of shock tonight, I'd like to be prepared in the morning having done some research.

      Thank you again

Chrissie I see loads of animals on my travels that dont have all their limbs, mostly wild ones too. If they can survive in the wild, I dont see why your little one woudnt survive in a home environment.
Good advice re the ear cleaning, I wouldnt have thought of that.
