Homemade words

Today my homemade word was: Torendous

I meant to say: It was torrential rain and the storm was horrendous but it came out as Torendous.

What was your new word and why?

For years I have had a "word of the week"....this weeks is detritus...I get a point for every email and set of minuites I can get it into.

Polos are always 'Olops' in our house. NO idea why.
Dinosaurs are 'daisywoos' as my little one could never say the right word.

My fave word today - not a new one though is 'turd' as I found an un-identified one in the back (enclosed) garden. Made everyone come and have a good look at it too lol.

My alltime fave word ever is 'trivet'

when i was little and mum and dad were trying to not let me know something, ie they had a secret for me, if i asked what it was they would say 'it is a wimwom for a wowzer', i just accepted it!

we have a family word I have always known but have no idea where it comes from - xxxxx. It means a zip up anorak/windbreaker type jacket. I find myself saying it in public ("Charlie, dont forget your xxxx") and I realise people think I am a loony as they take a half step away. I possibly am, but not because of that !
Another one is "catpenguin". Thats my husbands word.

I just googled that word for the first time ever after submitting this post, it also has another, very 'adult' meaning. Sorry to anyone who only knows that version, I wasnt being deliberately rude. I will have to stop Charlie saying it now, it might also explain the funny looks... had to xxxx it out, too embarrassed to leave it.

As a child in our house breakfast was bliss - cornflakes were flonks - keys were dyks - and fingers were genders. I still use those words.
My husband calls the kitchen work surfaces bunkers.
