I had to take a different route home from work today because of an accident, i drove through a village as i stopped at the traffic lights, i noticed a house with a 14 day reposession notice stuck in the window, what really got to me was the huge yellow and black forsale sign that wasnt your average forsale sign, it was something that you see on a business. In big letters it said mortgage company reposession, how awful, its bad enough some poor person / family has lost their house, but advertising it, it made my blood boil !

Its a sign of the times!! I remember the 'bargain' for sale properties in the early 90's that were reposessions. Personally, I would never buy one, much to my OH dismay. I could never enjoy living somewhere where someone had been forced to leave behind their home.

It just made me so mad, advertising someones misery, i remember as a kid, my parents moving after the miners strike, they had no choice but to move, my younger brother died after falling off his pushbike and banging his head on the kerb outside were we lived ( i cringe at people that ride a pushbike without a helmet ) but anyway the interest rate shot up and if it wasnt for my grandparents help they would have lost the house

That's so sad, it's as if their private business is no longer private, it's now in the public domain.

Obviously I don't know the story behind the sign, but it seems to me that helping people keep the roof over their head has to make more economic sense than a repossession order.

My heart goes out to them, I hope things get better for them.

I dont know the people, i was just driving past, it wasnt a flashy house just a 2 up 2 down neat terrace, i feel like driving back that way tommorow getting the name of the company and complaining ! not that it would do any good its just another statistic x

You could complain to the company but also point out that, from their point of view, it can't be good PR for them as they are advertising the fact that they trade in other's misfortune and misery. A little discretion would be nice.

Almost as bad are the TV adverts for repossessed houses going cheap! When you think of the misery and despair of the thousands of people pushed out of their homes it makes you wonder what sort of society we are becoming.

It's a pity the owners could not get help, like the Billions of pounds that was given to the banks when they couldn't pay their bills. Sign of the times I'm afraid Governments and Banks only interested in the cash.

I also thought there was a statutory limit on the size of for sale signs errected by estate agents and the like.

Just playing Devil's Advocate... remember that most lenders WILL go to a lot of trouble to avoid repossession, but there are lending in order to make some money, and what they lend is the savings of other people, quite often pension fund savings.
Occasionally repossession is simply the only option left.
As for the advertising side, until they sell, they have NO return at all on that capital, and the people who placed it in their care have a right to expect some interest.....

It is sad.As for recession in my eyes-2 of my friends lost their job,city center has lots of signs"to let" and reading here and there that "such and such company went into administration".I'm not really affected-I'm lucky to have my job and so my OH.I spoke to my neighbour last week who told me that one of the older couples on the street-their children(adults with kids)lost their houses in the recession and are moving in in the next 2 weeks.I felt like gobsmacked-2 families kicked out of their houses...

Something that really makes me see red is when reporters (TV or otherwise) ask such obviously brain dead questions. When PanAm 103 went down over Lockerbie, a local person rushed out to try and help, as he lived very close indeed to the stricken area. Bodies (and bits) were, basically, lying about and this man was asked "How do you feel about what has happened???????"

I've never seen a sign like that Louise, but like you say, how awful for the family concerned. We are in tough enough times as it is, without the whole world knowing your business. I hope I never see one of those signs.

I've never seen one either, but it would distress me if I did. What's wrong with a bog-standard 'For Sale' sign?

Its the first one ive seen, i ve seen the A4 size 14 day notice in windows, sadly more and more often as im driving around, but i havent seen a sign like that before, thats what made me so mad !!!
