  • Feel really down in the dumps.

Sorry this isn't a garden related thread to all of those that are interested!!!!

I've been ill for over a year now.

last May i woke up in one morning with a pain in my thigh and its still there but now i have pain in my lower back and in my bum!!!

I've had lots and lots of tests, 2 MRI scans, xrays and blood tests galore, to try and find out whats wrong with me but they can't seem to find out whats a matter. At one point they thought i needed a new hip but has i'm only 29 years old they did extra tests and found that i didn't thank god! Even had 2 Occupatinal threapists come to the house to see how i would be when i had the op!!!

Had a really bad week last week i went to the hospital on wednesday to the pain clinic and when i got there to see the specailist i had a total shock...

He told me that he thought that i've got Spina Bifda and touch something in my back and since then i've had tremandous pain and i've cried every day. That was a total shock to me and to say i was shocked was an under statement.

i've got to go in the hospital on the 9th of July to have a Sacro - iliac Joint injection under Xray control and also a Facet joint injections under x ray guidance.

Of course i've not been able to work during this time so i've been off sick.

So that was wednesday and on thursday i had a meeting with work and when i got there they said to me that because i had been off for the amount of time that i had they were finishing me on ill health.

Which i was very disappointed at as i loved my job. I worked in Evans Clothes shop for the larger lady and i loved it, i loved to help the woman that came in the shop and i also like the others bits too. I liked the back of house and merchandising the clothes, and i also used to make mood boards of all of the current trends, for the current seasons and i'd been prasied about them from the very top man himseld Sir Phillip Green!!

i've worked for the company 7 years and before i went off ill i was having training and in house training to go further in the company.

So i had a very bad week and in my garden we had to pull up our spinach has that had bolted and was producing flowers and i had put some onions sets and garlic in and they hadn't grown at all since we had put them in so i was very disppointed with them.

To be honest i've not been able to do much in the garden has i've been very ill and in lots of pain recently, which i'm very disappointed with, cos last year it was my place to relax and get away from everything and i took up gardening has a way to think of not being ill all of the time and a way of realease for me.
But this year i've not been able to do much at all, and i'd got really good plans for it too, but at least my other half has totally redone our back garden, and now i can now sit in the garden and relax and not see rubbish!!!

Sorry for my little moan but i do feel abit better for having this and writing it all down.

i just want a day when i can say that i feel 100% well and i can be my old self again, but i can always wish can't i.

Don't despair chick, I had huge back problems for 18 months and felt like I was going to be stuck that way forever, but it gradually improved and with management I function pretty well now. You might have to find new ways of doing things, take a bit more time to do them and also accept that some days will be harder than others.

Good luck with all the scans and xrays, I hope they find something and fix it for you.

(((((((((((((((hug)))))))))))))))). Sorry it's all so carp for you at the moment. Constant pain can be so wearing, physically and mentally so I really hope this stuff works for you I really do and at such a tender age too. It's just not fair sometimes.

However, the nice thing about gardens is they don't mind if you can't do them all the time, they're very paitent and don't grumble too much although you might have to do a bit more weeding. I've got Garlic and Onions in this year which seemed to take forever but they made a show in the end. Now I just need to keep my fingers Xd that they don't rot like they did last year.

(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) to you, i am going thru sheit at the moment too.....try to look at the positives and not the negatives, at least they are trying to sort out the problem. The scans dont hurt, just very noisy but they provide you with earmuffs! I always think about something really nice when I am being scanned.

Good luck with everything and if you need an ear to moan into, mine is always there for you xxx

I do feel for you, knowing what constant pain and fatigue can do to you. Don't give up; there is always hope that things will improve, with or without help from all these medical people. Do get some reiki if you can, or any other complementary therapy you feel might help you. Do some research on the web; there's lots there that your GP might not know about.
I have had spinal arthritis for the last 14 years and ME for four and a half, and it has been a long haul - especially since many of the medical profession don't believe that ME exists! - so I do know what you are going through. My GP is great, willing to try different things and very supportive and I am now managing well on heavy painkillers and sensible use of my energy.
I do hope you will find some comfort soon. And do use this forum to have a good moan when you need to. It helps!
            Blessings.

Oh dear - really feel for you. Know what its like to be in pain (although not as bad as yours by the sound of it) as have had arthritis in my lower spine for several years now (feel more like 90 some days than 50) and have sciatica most days. Sorry that you've also lost your job. Big hug and we're always here when you want a rant. Take care.

Sorry things are so bad for you at the moment. I can totally sympathise, 18 years ago I walked with a stick if I could walk at all, I took so many pills I rattled, and despite numerous blood test for rhuematoid arthritis, scans, x-rays etc, they never did decide what was up. They did say I had spina bifida (and that I should have been told before, not after having 3 healthy children). At one stage they talked about hip replacement, that I might be in a wheelchair before I was 40, I even ended up qualifying for home help because my husband worked away from home and I was classed as disabled.
After about 4 years of agony my joints gradually stopped aching, I came off the pills and I've gone on to get a degree, train as a teacher, and despite a couple of accidents at school where they've tried their best to do me in, I'm now back working as a full time teacher. I do sometimes get aches and pains, but nothing like I was, so keep positive. Hopefully they will diagnose what the problem is so you can have treatment and you will be able to enjoy life again.

Did he say what type of Spina Bifida it was: Occulta or Mennigocele (If it was Myelomeningocele you would have known at birth).

Both Occulta and Mennigocele can usually be repaired.

It may be frightening but once they know what is wrong you are on the way to a cure.

Before you go to the hospital...write down all the questions that you can think of and then take someone with you...and its their job to make sure the qestions are asked and the awnsers are written down so that you can read them when you are calm......

Mrs Nog comes with me cos I used to come home and she would say "well what did they say?" and I would have forgotten.....

Don't forget that it may be bad but being boiled in oil is worse.....

I'm so sorry you're having such a bad time. Although it must be hard, try and remain positive and hopefully the docs will get it sorted for you. Feel free to rant away, there are always ears here on the vine who will listen, me included

Hoping the pain disappears really soon and you feel like your young self again.

Try to remain positive even though it must be really hard when you are in pain. Remember there are always people around to listen in times of despair.

I recommend going into the garden and feeling the warmth of the sun on your face. It's a great pick me up. Take care and a speedy recovery.

I'm so sorry you are in such pain, have a few problems myself but they are age related I suspect. Have you thought of acupuncture, I've had this twice, once for neck problems after a car accident and then for a frozen shoulder which had grumbled on for years, then got so bad that nothing touched it, anti inflammatory drugs were useless,I got to the point where I couldn't use my arm at all. Three sessions of acupuncture and my shoulder has been completely pain free for three years, I don't know how it works but it did for me.

Best wishes and I hope things soon improve.
