  • Favourite Clothes for gardening

To go off the the allotments, I always seem to wear the same type of clothes.

T shirt, cargo pants with wide braces, boots. In cold weather a builder's shirt/jacket or in warmer weather when it can be a little chilly first thing, a shirt over the T shirt.

The cargo pants I find invaluable with all the pockets for ties, knife and of course a big red paisley bandana for wiping the sweat off my brow.

It's almost become a uniform for me and the dog gets all excited if I'm wearing this as he knows he's likely to be coming with me.

Does anyone else have "Gardening Clothes"?
I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.

In the summer I wear a pair of kaki shorts and strappy t shirt, socks and ankle wellies, I bought a cheap pair of 3/4 lenth red trousers for when the others are in the wash or cooler days.
In the winter I wear a pair of thick jog bottoms and t shirt and add thin jumper then fleece if its really cold and strip off the layers as I warm up. Wellie socks and wellies if wet underfoot.

A pair of these which I bought specially
        Blacks Cargo Trs

And a Morrissey T-shirt - limited edition Dagenham Dave which came as a promo....with Morrissey 10 on the back.

And I got one of these for when it gets breezy [which it does quite often]

        Blacks Earnshaw hooded knit

Walking boots on feet - steelies if I'm doing a load of digging [not often as we have beds], or a pair of MBTs that I bought for walking long distances.

Ratty old army combats (pockets) any ragged old t-shirt, a pair of BHB's (Big Heavy Boots) and my Aussie diggers hat wiv corks on. Or, if its colder, a boiler suit.

This season I will be mostly wearing:

            3/4 length shorts
            T-shirt
Flip flops (I know, I know!!)

If I'm doing some "heavy" work I will wear my steelies.

Last summer I wore a straw cowboy hat, but that's now rotted away in the shed and I haven't found another one that fits yet.

Winter time. Jeans, wellies/steelies and t-shirt (I get hot easily).

I wear the exact same clothes for gardening that I do for everything else... Black stretchy fitness pants, a big baggy t-shirt, walking boots. If it's cold a fleece, colder and a man's body warmer(gilet), colder than that & I swap for a ski jacket.

I wear those same things for shopping, walking the dog, going to the lottie, cooking, going to the in-laws... In fact, everything except for going out to eat with Dad. Then I swap the big baggy t-shirt for something a bit nicer, and the fitness pants for cleaner newer fitness pants...

Think of Ray Mears and thats pretty much my look. Kaki shorts, t shirt boots etc. Although sometimes I do regret the shorts when I get stonking fly bites - thats with repellent as well. When it gets a bit cooler a nice fleecey jumper.

I only have a small patch in my garden, so for anything other than hard landscaping, I just wear whatever I'm wearing that day - anything from a shirt and suit trousers if I've just come home from work, to a sundress, to my nightie.

My neighbours must think I'm crazy... they talk to each other but not to me.

One of our new 2 girlie lottie neighbours turn up in high heels. Not kidding. The first time she called over that she doesn't usually wear stilettos for gardening, but I've not seen her without them.

She drives every time - what's the deal with just chucking a pair of old boots in the back of the car???

I wear what I almost always wear - chaps' shirt from Asda - got 4 of them - denims or cords. Hoodie if cold. As I'm in the garden, the chicken run or the allotment every day this is standard wear. When I scrub up for something special I like to make sure people notice! So a skirt is a big deal. I think I've even got a 'frock' somewhere!
