      Day Four

Well actually Day Three amended as the builder called (at last) at 21.05 last night and confirmed he would be here......

......next Monday at 9am - so now we are officially a whole week behind schedule

(and the kitchen company have out-done themselves as this poor builder is coming over 100 miles from Manchester to do the job)

      So to Day four proper:

Have arranged flooring contractors to follow on directly from the builders on Monday and am awaiting a call back from the Decorators tomorrow evening to confirm whether they come in before the Karndean is laid on the floor or after.

Still have to have the conversation with said Kitchen Company to put the installation back a week (their last week before Xmas and probably already booked up - but hey maybe someone in that week would really like their kitchen fitted a week early?)

Tell me if I'm boring you folks.

Expect the next update at the weekend

PS came home to 1 cat limping so Metacam administered and a wait and see approach being adopted.

oh Dogsbody sorry but had to laugh at the ps. 'cat came home with a limp'............how do they know just when to do this? ours do the exact same thing and ALWAYS when we have more than enough stress to deal with!
My love to you all and Kitty - I hope the limp soon goes.

This is turning into a real debacle for you. I really hope they get their collective acts together quickly now.

Day Eight or is it Day three?

OK, so at last we have started to make progress.......

.......Monday the builders turned up as promised from Manchester (a good 200 mile round trip!!). It took the two of them 45 minutes to remove the old kitchen.....

......flooring company didn't arrive as promised at 4pm..... just didn't arrive at all....... (subsequent emails have re-arranged the floor to after the decorators - which in hindsight was the best move so far).

.....yesterday (day 7 or day 2 depending on how you count it) Decorators arrived as agreed at 08.30 and together with their plasterer worked right through, the plasterer left at 20.45, but that job was done.

.....TodayHaving spent over £5 on mobile calls over the last two days and getting no further than the queue I took some time off work and sat on the home phone for 25minutes in order to persuade the fitting to be put back from 7th to 14th and NOT into next year as was originally threatened. SUCCESS!! Some grumpy bloke finally admitted fitters were available for 14th and so that date is now inked into the diary (bets on them turning up anyone??).

Oh and the cat's limp is gone

Hooray about the cat and fingers crossed that it all runs to plan from now!! They say having a kitchen replaced is one of the most stressful thing you can undergo - I hope your stresses are over now.

Its so scary how companies are so ignorant and do not know the meaning of customer service, they do not consider if you both work and how inconvenient it is to sit in all day and no one turn up and no phone call. I know that this is a free kitchen you have one in a prize, but you are still a customer and as such deserve common courtesy. I do hope that you will be so happy with the outcome that all this hassle and stress will be worthwhile.

i cannot wait to see the finished pics

Hi dogsbody - meant to send my congrats ages ago. Sorry. Was going to suggest Marmoleum as floor covering - posh new name for lino, but it's lovely colours, swirly patterns hide dirt, and softish - ie. things won't break if dropped on it - hopefully. So - if flooring man doesn't turn up, perhaps you could consider this. I've been trying to get OH to help me redo our kitchen - also v. small, for the last two years. I actually managed to order new cooker - Cannon Carrick - yesterday, as 2nd stage in process. (Took me ages to decide). Are you having built in hob etc? We need new cooker right now, so can't wait for that. Got new fridge a couple of months ago. Now just waiting to get Ikea kitchen which neighbour will fit (prob next Spring!) and flooring in last. Will have to decorate on my own at some point in between!

                    Good luck. Keep us posted!

                      Weekend update

Thanks everyone for good wishes and suggestions.

The decorating has been finished, was supposed to be a red wine / white wine look, but the white looks a little too blue for that!! Will be looking at it over the next week or so to decide whether I want it changing. Trouble is the door now looks completely out of place and will have to be sorted too.

Flooring is arranged for next week - I'm having Karndean in a light stone effect - expensive but worth it I'm sure.

Then a week on Monday kitchen installation starts (just hope they get it finished in the one week). As well as the usual cupboards there is :
                      a built in double oven
an induction hob (needed new pans for that)
                      extraction hood
                      fridge
                      washing machine
                      dishwasher
                      double sink
and a cute little striplight they threw in

                      Will update again next weekend.

                            IT'S FINISHED (well almost)

The fitters have just left and everything is in, working and finished.

The decorators will have to come back in the New Year to tart the place up so I will leave the photos until then.

I have more handbooks than I know what to do with.

And, yes, to all those who have said "it will be worth it in the end" - they were right.

Now what can I cook for tea tonight that doesn't need a microwave?

Excellent! You will love the induction hob- it does away completely with any need for a bain marie - and the double sink will be a godsend too!
