Just did a search on completed listings on Ebay, couldn't see any that had sold for 1000's, but did see one that went for £720. Better than a poke in the eye isn't it

strange that the royal mint has nothing on their website about it, yet there is a separate website claiming to be from the royal mint saying to send the 20p pieces in and they'll pay £1000 each for them

the rumour is that the coins have absolutely no date on them - some 20ps have the date on the back, some on the front - some people have heard the no date rumour, have seen the date on the front of new 20ps, realised no date on the front of old 20ps (because it's on the back), and have rushed to sell them on ebay

and if you point out the date is actually on the back, you get an "oh yeah" ....

but would be nice if the rumours are true and i've got some ....

Not just a rumour, although the BBC are a bit more conservative about their value:

BBC NEWS | UK | Wales | South East Wales | Faulty 20p coins 'worth £50 each'
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

The story on the BBC was that they changed the side that the date was on and someone used an old and a new die...so neithe die had the date.
