  • I love Freecycle!

We've managed to get rid of a lot of our unwanteds (e.g. unwanted Xmas presents from the in-laws and grandparents)

But we've also got loads of stuff from there that we'd never have been able to afford otherwise. We've got a second greenhouse, a freezer for all the fruit etc and last night a lovely guy called John delivered us 26 glass demi-johns!!

They have stopped making wine etc now, but he didn't want them to go to waste.

They'll be perfect for cider and wine next year and we couldn't have afforded to buy that many.

I've even got my mum using Freecycle... she thinks its the best thing since sliced bread

    Wow! Fantastic, well done OWG!!

We got our greenhouse for free too, which is fab, and some weed control fabric off freecycle, but still looking for homebrew equipment and a freezer for the veg, trouble is that type of thing tends to go very quickly over here!
    Blessings

Have banned OH from accepting anything from freecycle until we've got shot of all our stuff - our garage, loft and back bedroom are all full of stuff that whilst not rubbish, isn't needed by us. Don't want to throw it away, some of it would be difficult to sell so it's dead good that it goes to somebody who wants it and we regain control of our house. Am trying to do a bit each week but it's slow work and nobody seems to want our old printer so it's not always successful!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

They seem to be starting up new ones every few weeks around here - keep getting mails from the mods re if you live in this area then you might like to join this new group etc etc. Had never heard of it until last summer when my friend mentioned it and now it seems to crop up all over. Not bad for a non profit thing.

I use it a lot! Has saved me a fortune and when on limited funds that is a big plus. Have managed to off load a lot of stuff too - things I didn't expect to go went, and stuff that I would have thought would go quickly hasn't. Brilliant idea!

I've picked up some good bits and pieces mainly for Miss E but also fruit bush cuttings, a few demijohns that sort of thing. I've also managed to clear some stuff but I do that in batches to minimise disruption. Think it is a great idea. Like you Mrs D most of the gardening stuff goes before it hits my inbox or it's too far away to reasonably collect. Never mind we'll get there.

I use Freecycle loads -excellent way to recycle.

I would recommend it to anyone but you do need to be quick on items offered, they go fast!

Thanks everybody for the Freecycle information. I wasn't really aware of the movement, but I've just been on, discovered I have a fairly local group and joined. I've lots of things I'd like to be rid of but don't want to dump, so here's hoping.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

It's great that so many are getting great finds and disposing of no longer wanted items this way.

Funny, my local one has a steadily increasing volume of unrealistic "Wanted" posts and a stable or declining list of "Offered".

                          My balance stands at:
Armchair and bike out, metal shed in.

Fireplace and inset fire, Standard lamp out, 2 x greenhouses and a calor gas fire in.

Our Balance stands at a 10'x8' greenhouse, weed control fabric 1.5m x 20m, wooden A4 scrapbook, about 2m x 12m of muslin (great for drying herbs in), some organic flowering plants and some soil from a garden in Crewe in, and sea fishing mags, videos and some of our old rods out.

We are planning on finally clearing the back bedroom this winter, so lots more going to be on there soon!
                              Blessings
