  • What are you growing for the first time???

This year is the first time we've grown khol rabi..and it's doing really well!!!

I cheated a bit by buying 10 plugs in a strip- but they're all at least as big as a golf ball and a couple are as big as tennis balls!!!
Now then- should I be taking the largest one now??? ( ie does it go woody or taste less if left too long)

...actually I've never eaten it before either...so it's getting very tempting to take one

You should harvest at tennis ball size, beware cabbage whites love them I haven't room this year for them. I've got PSB and red cabbage for the first time and borlottis but started some runners off in case the Borlottis don't produce in quantity. Kale for the first time for winter and I've about 80 odd leeks to transplants when I can think of where they might go

I am growing lots of things for the first time as it's only my second year and am doing way more than last year, the ones OH has already turned his nose up are celeriac and florence fennel.

I'm growing melons and aubergine for the first time. They seem to be doing well in the greenhouse, I need to read up to see what I should do next! Any tips anyone?

I've got some Soya bean plants...was actually just looking at them thinking how pretty/dainty their leaves are, think they're looking big enough to get planted out.

I dont think I have ever eaten these before, what sort of things can be done with them, I am thinking probably roasted and soup, I think our nailbrush gets used more on veg than it does on hands

we steamed ours and served rolled in butter....really delicate flavour
You can't peel them cos they're too small and fiddly- so keep them under the soil and take as you want them-the skins toughen up when exposed to air for a few days.
Brill as maggots for halloween too!
