What are you growing for the first time???

I was thinking that I wasn't trying anything new this year, but then I remembered that I have a watermelon plant in the greenhouse (foolishly right next to an all female cucumber plant, so I dread to think what my cucs will taste like ), and I have parsnips for the first time too, thanks to a swap with pipscariad

I've grown Asparagus Peas for the first time this year, just because they sounded interesting. I won't be growing them next year - they taste horrible!! I'll stick to "proper" peas and "proper" asparagus

Oh, and I'm growing Achocha too, never tried it before and not absolutely sure what to do with it once it's grown

well I am now growing some herbs in little pots for the first time in my kitchen and other toms and tumbling toms!

Ooo i am gettin excited about trying out all my new veggies !

I usually try and have a 'This year's guest veg', and this year it's salsify. Don't know how it will do, or if we'll even like it, but a couple of times in the past I've sown a few seeds of something either because I was given them or because someone requested I grow it, and have been pleasantly surprised. Pottimarron pumpkins being the biggest success... asked to grow them by a mate, tasted one and kept most of the crop for myself.

Blimey that list looks a lot more impressive than it really is!

I'm still in the 'I'm only messing about and not seriously growing yet' mindset but that list has bolstered my confidence!

I only have a small amount of each (except the tomatoes, chillies and peppers as I expected half to die/get eaten/not germinate) and I am already getting very excited about next years as I will have my green house up and some proper beds ready by then

I'm off to take some pics of my garden to email to my sister and I might try and fathom the photo albums on here too!

I like asparagus peas, but I'd grow them for the flowers anyway. As a vegetable, it is very easy to miss the pods until they are a bit big, and gettign tough.....
First time of growing? French beans.
I've attempted all the rest before (although in some cases not these varieties)
Spuds (Nicola)
Runner beans (Margoles, or some name like that, white flowers)

sugarpod peas
asparagus peas
The chickpeas don't count, because there are only 4 plants survived the slugs, and I am pretty sure I won't get any crop. Next year I will try to grow them 'properly'!
