Had one early yesterday, but only a blip. Hardly ever get them, but when I lived about 5 miles away it was 3 or 4 times a week at times. Got so fed up re-setting clocks on cooker, microwave, video etc I gave up!

My gripe here is BT's haphazard Broadband connection - drives me round the blimmin bend

We used to get them very often here, for what seemed like very little reason, but then I was told by a local electrician that we have one of the highest incidences of power surges in the country here, and the sub-station eqpt couldn't cope with it Anyway, they've done something in the sub-station now so that the fuses can reset themselves up to 5 times, but after that, they're off. And then an engineer has to come out and sort it. So we count how many times the lights flicker now, and if it gets to 3 in quick succession we start getting out the stoves/candles/lamps/torches...

One place we've never had a powercut yet is Spain, but then that is our 'own' supply!
We get warning if the batteries are low, and can run the genny. Just as long as we have petrol......
Mosly the solar panels and windmill are enough.....
