I thought I'd start a topic this time,
where everything written has to rhyme,
give us good news or tell us your woes,
just make sure you use adequate prose.

Think it's easy? It can be quite a trial,
finding the words can take quite a while,
rhyming is easy, but it needs to make sense,
considering grammar, and structure and tense.

You can use limerick, couplet or haiku,
or try any styles more familiar to you,
or write just one line for another to use,
write what you want, whatever you choose.

the garden is good, the lottie is green
my full podded peas are the best that i've seen.
the weathers been good, the beans are a sight,
there climbing those sticks to six foot alright.
july just got gloomy, i'm filled with woes!
i'm having an op on both my big toes....
don't be sad i heard the grapes say
but its just a week before my holiday.
this will be a battle from the heart

About to sell our house - oh what a stress
Building a new home but the plot is a mess
Huge overdraft - really not funny
Builders and Brickies want a whole lot of money

Hall and stairs need a new coat of paint
If I do any more I know I will faint
I'm stressy and grumpy and in a right mood
Me bad - this morning I forgot the dogs food

Village Open Garden is a couple of days
We'll pray for no rain and a couple of rays
No shows for items that I put on Freecycle
Sometimes I know they're just taking the Michael

Our dogs and the cat have decided to cast
A fur free floor is a thing of the past
Fed up of housework and mopping the floor
AmandaandHerVeg are finding things a chore

        I had a little swede

OH thought it was a weed

It is no longer a swede........

        Where's my box of seeds?

I wish I was as clever at poems as you
I try and I try but get in a stew
Its taken an hour to get this far
Some of my concoctions have been quite bizarre

I'd like to tell you about my new home
or about my lottie, where I love to roam
Instead I shall stumble to find the right words
Oh look! I've already nearly done two thirds

And so, now its time to get back to some work
They tell me the internet is not a perk
I enjoyed forming some rhyming couplets
When I get home I'll sew some more carrots

(sorry about the ending, that was rubbish!!)

Pumpkin Becki, I thought your rhyme was good,
it was all clear, your message understood,
I often find, I can right one line,
but the problem is finding another word that fits in a sentence that's short enough to read and allow it to rhyme!

Or there's only one word that will sound okay,
but doesn't fit whatever you're trying to say,
so you fiddle around and have a play,
and try to say things in another way.

I'm loving people's poems, I hope this thread works,
and we discover the forum's poetic quirks,
right, tea time. I think it just has-ta,
be chicken and sauce in a big bowl of pasta.

              short ode to tulip's carrots

              wee skinny, wizened, prunelike beasties,
              no chance for me
              for slap-up feasties.

                Dreams

                I dreamt I had a Chinchilla
                Sitting on my head
A white and fluffy ball of fun
                Who slept upon my bed

I walked into a shop one day
And the old lady there said
My dear, I simply have to say
                I really love your hat

                - - - - - - - - -

OK, so it's not about my garden
I really do beg your pardon!

I'd love to join in, if only I could
I'd love a real garden, then maybe I could
There's little to write about growing down here
There's only times past, and that sheep farm I fear

My clever daughter is keeping show birds
I just have to manage with looking for words
I've started some carving to make things to sell
I got some nice oak, now there's woodworm as well

It seems I am fated to struggle again
                  Sometimes I wish I was 7 again
Life was so simple all those years ago
Ah well, life goes on, so... cheerio!
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

                    I've done no gardening today,
                    been packing for going away,
                    I'm off to Spain,
                    away from the rain,
                    on a deserved 2-week holiday.

                        A Riddle

One plant in my garden's a chancer,
                        A fence-climber, roamer, pole dancer,
Thrives in sun, wind and rain,
                        In the @@s it's a pain -
What is it? Do you know the answer?

Of many plant species the above could be said
Has it got flowers, are they white, blue or red?
Was it planted on purpose or is it a weed?
Is there only the one, or does it 'self-seed'?

A little more detail and maybe we could
Answer your riddle the way that we should!

Sounds like bindweed to me, I must say,
I have to uproot a ton each day,
or get it with my weedkilling spray,
it grows through from my neighbour's just down the way.

Ollie, you're right - you win the quiz,
Sorry there's no prize but that's how it is.

                              --------------------------------------

                              Just got back from centre-city,
and I'm thinking, what a pity
that when you get a parking ticket
you can't just tell them where to stick it.
