      Haiku time I think,
will I be any good at this,
      or will I be crap?

      My garden loves rain,
It makes everything shoot up green,
      and saves on water.

      I go away soon,
and when I come back from Spain,
      can't wait to see it.

Enjoy your holiday Ollie my dear
I hope that you get to drink lots of beer
Your garden will flourish while you are away
So will the weeds - well what can I say!

          Dear Ollie,
          have a nice hollie
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

            Gardening, such a funny thing
Rows of carrots, birds that sing
            Sun shining on your back
            Give that clod another thwack

Mud on your fingers, dirt in your toes
Most of it's managed, with hard work and hoes

Seed packs lined up in neat little boxes
Some folk keep chickens, watching for foxes

Sitting on benches at the end of the day
Gardn'ins a past time, though others will say
That gardens are time traps, lost in a daze
Yet they continue to inspire, enthrall and amaze

            Pests and diseases, particularly slugs
Organically dealt with using old beer by the glug
Ladybird armies to fend of the greenfly
Where do they all come from, my oh my

            Beautiful flowers, some turning edible
Holy cow, is that really a vegtable?

Summer closes, village shows and harvest
The prettiest, the most, the biggest and largest
Glut, excess and too many onions
Ladies in wellies, nursing their bunions

Fondest of memories from yester year
Grandad once gardened just over here
Growing the same things, that I do today
Now things are growing, where he peacefully lay

Sheds and greenhouses, buckets and spades
Not to build sandcastles, no not right now
But I'll build an empire, just hand me my trowel

My timing's all out again, nothing's on time
I've just about used up, all the words I can rhyme
But I'll leave you all with a smile and some cheer
Never mind, there's always nexct year!

              This is my 7000th post
It's what I love to do the most

Apart from making chilli and garlic spray
That I use to keep the bugs away

And apart from making jam and jellies
That make their way [fast] to our bellies

And apart from saving lots of seeds
An amount of which my seed box exceeds

And apart of course from growing stuff
I never can quiet grow enough

And I must mention of course my onions
[There is no actual rhyme for onions]

I'll leave you with one final thought
Better grown your own than shop bought.

So zazen, you say nothing rhymes with onion,
but what about minion, crayon and bunion,
                stallion, scallion, pillion and bullion,
and numbers like million, billion or trillion?

                  I don't think I shall ever see
a poem as lovely as a bee

It's true the bee is finely made
to fly and frolic in the glade,
                    she's of a perfect mini-size
                    to forage and to fertilize.
She seeks for pollen in the clover
and gives our plants a going-over,
                    without her rummage-dance so beautiful
so much growth would be left unfruitiful.

Yes, the bee's fine-formed and neat,
just like your poem, so short and sweet.

Well, here goes with my little rhyme
Do I really have the time
To tend to all my lovely plants
Instead I have this weekend, thanks

Had a rest and rightly so
You see I just can't wait to sow
Some more seeds on my lottie
Think I'm daft, no I'm potty

When it comes to plants and things
And all that the good life brings
Hope to get my chucks in 2 weeks time
Never had them before, I'll be fine

Going to get 6 chucks to start
But do I really have the heart
To go out and build a run
I want to know where's the sun?

Of course I will I've given them names
Do you want to hear them, all the same
Daisy, Betty, Gladys and Ruby too
Lu-lu and Doris are just a few

Anyway, I'll be here all day
Typing to you in this way
So I'll go and run my bath
Be back later for a laugh

Not been on the chat on a Sunday eve
I've been too busy can you believe?
Lovely thread I want to say
Hope some more rhymes come our way

I never thought I could better "shop bought"
                        Until my good lady wife
                        The light of my life
Showed me different, "What a Sort!"
Sent from my pc cos I don't have an i-phone.

                          a hundred and three,
a veg that, even with super-feeds,
will thrive half as lively as the weeds.

(As you can see, it's clear enough

                            Ollie started this clever thread
To see if the grapes could be easily lead.
How does your garden grow today?
And did your chicks manage to lay?
The grapes completed the difficult task
Whats new today is all we ask.
Join in with news that is personal to you
At the end of the day you can enjoy a good brew.

I have raked the soil and planted the seeds
Now I've joined the army that fights the weeds.

I had my first spuds yesterday,
'Maris Piper' they are - I must say
                              They were lovely and big,
So I made quite a pig
Of myself, there being nothing to pay,

Since I'd grown them myself, in the plot,
So I boiled them, and ate quite a lot,
                              With French beans (Cherokee)
And a courgette - all free,
cos I grew them, and paid not a jot!

                                The kids are revolting.
