  • Rain- flipping typical!!!

I pulled half my shallots this morning and they were drying wonderfully in the sun.
I've just looked out of the window...and it's clearly been raining for a while!
Oh well- fingers crossed for sun tomorrow!

I've got mine drying on the racking of my plastic green house (flap open of course) - I couldn't rescue them quick enough if I left them on the ground - 7 miles from home, 12 from work!!

frustrating thing is ...they're about 200 yards from where I'm sitting- and after a stonkingly hot morning I failed to notice it'd been raining heavily for a while!

          A few hundred!!!

Yup- it's stopped raining now- they'd have got jut as wet if I'd left them in the ground!
Will pay more attention to them tomorrow now!

Ouch!! I only started with about 20 sets in a raised bed approx 2m x1m in spring. So far I've been pulling in stages, but the tops are definately browning off now, so time to pull the rest soon. Hope tomorrow is bright and sunny for you Nicos.

              Thanks!!
If not I'll bring them into the barn and put them on a drying rake my mom gave me ( it's a very strong mesh which went over a pond and is about 5 ft square!!)

I'm really chuffed with them as they didn't seem very big until I pulled them....

Pulled some of my onions last week, hung them on the rack and it peed down for days.

Pulled the remainder of the onions yesterday, also in the rack and today has been gloriously hot again, which is fine as I've moved the water round the butts.

                Onions now drying nicely.

Just lucky you've got a handy 'barn' to store them in...I'm not jealous honestly

D'oh...guess who'd left 2 washer loads of washing on the line then too!!

Clearly not a Domestic Goddess day today!!
( no doubt I'll burn the roast veg too!!!!!!)

Tony- you're ahead of me...sounds good though!!!!

I've been saving the net bags from spuds I've bought over the spring- and going to store the shallots in them!

Think I'll have a go at plaiting onions again- my last attempt ended up falling to bits after a month..perhaps they weren't dry enough before Ii plaited them???
