    Weightwatchers! Sorry, but it works.

My OH and I used to be great cycle tourists, our last cycling holiday before my OH had a rather nasty accident, was 1000 miles in France (over 3.1/2 weeks), including the Alps and carrying camping gear. I had spent years slimming down my bike, my carriers, my clothes, etc when I realised what I really had to do was slim down myself. So I did weightwatchers for six months and lost 1 1/2 stone. Yep ....... and I thought I was fit!
It helps you to eat well (a little bit of everything), not eat fat, eat smaller proportions, do exercise and keep a record of everything you eat. The cookbooks are superb. And you don't have to go to a weigh in. I did it all myself with the help of their website. I would certainly recommend it.
That was four years ago and I have managed (reasonably well) to keep the weight off despite not cycling much these days. (When you are only 5 foot nothing it doesn't take much to look over weight!) But the principles have remained with me and when I need to get into the little black dress for the Christmas parties, I do a couple of weeks and hey presto - it fits! Hope this inspires some of you!

PS And my daughter in law is a nutritionist and she thinks its a good diet too!

I'm sure everybody will hate me for this, but I've never had a problem with my weight. I just eat what I want to eat I never want to eat the main culprits - the fat laden carbs - chips, crisps, fried whatever, shop bought biscuits, cakes and doughs. I hate them all. Nothing to do with being virtuous or health conscious. Just hate the taste - and the smell.

Sorry but while I agree with everything else it is actually dangerous to cut out all fat as you miss out on the essential fatty acids required by your body. I know someone who did, she lost a lot of weight but has put it all back on and some and her health hasn't been the same since.

Thats where weightwatchers is good as you do still eat fat, but its balanced and you eat the right ones and probably why I havent put the weight back on again.

I've never had a problem with mine either ..... I eat what I like and am still a lard ar*e serious My wife went on the weightwatcher jobby and it does work. the main worry I had was when I gave up smoking but luckily it didn't have the undesired effect. My main problem is I eat aat the wrong times (while i'm awake ) I tend to hacve a cheese & onion sarnie about 11:00 at night which is not good & I never have breakfast either ..... I know it's bad but I can't really face it at 5:30 in the morning

On a similar vein, anyone know how I can grow to about 8ft 6, then I wouldn't be over weight

Never really had a weight problem myself either - am fortunate that I genuinely like a lot of the stuff that's good for you (chocolate is good for you isn't it??????). However many of my friends have suffered for years on various, quite frankly bizarre diets and some of them look downright unhealthy to me. From what I can see the problem with many of them is that they simply cut back your calorie intake so that you lose weight as a short term fix. However if you then go back to eating what you did before you'll put it back on again and be generally demoralised. Weight Watchers (and probably others as well) looks to be pretty good in that it aims to tweek (or in some cases radically change!) your attitutes to food as a long term thing so more of a life style change rather than a quick fix diet. I genuinely find some of the advice in magazines etc very worrying, encouraging young people to cut out some food types totally can not promote a healthy relationship with food.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I only have to look at food and I put the weight on! I blame my father's side of the family, he was the same! Even with the cycling my weight used to fluctuate (unfortunately due to all the pasta sauces and parmesan cheese!). But weightwatchers taught me a new way of looking at eating, more balanced and healthy and I have certainly been that these last four years!

If you are going to follow a diet it must be a balanced one and one that you stick to the principles after you have lost the weight, otherwise there is no point. It takes alot of effort to lose weight, so you want to make it worthwhile.

Funnily enough I was leaving my allotment the other evening just as it was getting dark and one of the huts seemed to be lit up.
On closer inspection there was a strip light lin the hut with a small generator put- putting behind it.
Looking through the window I could see someone sitting in an armchair with there feet up watching the telly!

You should have knocked the door and asked him Snadger. In that little black number we know you have struggled to get into, I'm sure you would have been most fetching. Has Mrs Snadger not told you how gorgeous you look in it. Tut, tut, she really should be more attentive or someone might come and steal her prize away.
