I've just had a phone call to say that a pal of Ian's has had a heart attack and died - this pal and Ian joined up together and moved through the Service pretty much side-by-side, he was also Ian's Best Man at our wedding.

My dilemma - do I email him now or wait until he calls me which won't be until Monday at the earliest - bu**er bu**er bu**er

you can't tell him something like that in an email... can't you email him and ask him to phone you as you've got something important you need to tell him?

I agree, you can't tell in an e-mail - prolly best to get him to call you earlier if poss. Do you know his widow, how is she doing?

My concern is that he said he wouldn't be able to call me before Monday evening (meaning he really wouldn't be able to, if you get my drift), if I email trying to get him to - well, he's going to really worry isn't he

I think you're right, it's best to sit on it until Monday, at least you've got us to unload on (and I mean that most kindly) There's nothing much he can do anyway from there.

What a rotten situation Piskie. Purely in these circumstances, I think you're right that your best option is to put your Big Girl Panties on and wait till monday to talk to Snowdrop. Obviously it's not going to be 'good news' when he hears it but if, as you suspect, he really *can't* call you just now, he's only going to imagine even worse things and that won't help to keep him and his lads safe

It is of course possible that word might get round the ranks and he might know before Monday......but you can't email that, he'd have a nightmare few days.
