She is not for sale and is not likely to be for sale for a long time yet. I was offered £5k for her a week or so after I bought her and she has been restored since then so deffo worth a fair whack.
Somebody offered you £5k for a 24 year old golf?!
It just goes to show anythings worth what someone will pay for it...
I appreciate this is about alleged insurance values but many folks are not aware that their classic cars can be insured for next to nothing on an agreed value scheme. I drive a 23 year old V8 Rover SD1, E277DPG (google it) and folks take the mick. But lets look at it this way...
Carbon footprint (yeah yeah - another buzz phrase), is annulled as the car was made in July '86. No energy used to dig up, process and manufacture new raw materials and turn them into a new blob mobile. Also no energy used in transporting the car 1/2 way across the world and on transporters to the local dealerships... Need I go on...
The car is unique - not many left
The car has character and road presence. How individual is the new computer designed, robot built blob - no offence meant to those who appreciate the value of having a new car with warranties et al.
In 23 years time what are the chances of a modern car still being on the road and reliably bombing about the country? Look how many newer cars cannot be fixed at home... Not even by local garages... Only main dealers...
BTW, a numpty valued my SD1 Vitesse at £175. I find this quite amusing. The car has an insurance value of £4500. Similar situation - how can you value a painting when the artist is long dead?
Let's go diggin' dirt....
Big silver bird, come land low and slow
Cut your engines, cool your wings,
You've taken me home...
Friend of my dad used to have the 3500 Vitesse. Trouble is he b*sterdised it by putting led lights and a massive spoiler on it, a huge skirt (home made) on the front and generally ruined what was a perfectly good looking car.
Incidentally the SD1 was the first Matchbox car I ever bought - followed closely by a 911 Turbo.
One area where modern cars are often better - for me at least.
Friend of mine has a 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner - which is mahoosive, but there's hardly any room in it for me. I couldn't drive it for more than about 1/2 an hour.

A mate of mine has a real '59 Caddy... And a real '57 Bel-Air... #turns green with envy#. Oh yeah, he has a '51 flat bed rat look Chevy truck too... http://stylecars.org.uk/
I appreciated no one was having a pop at owning/running old heaps - but a couple of comments just made me snigger...
